Unlicensed California passer to work in New York

Published

hey guys..I need your advise and your help. Please clarify this for me..This is my story....I am a Philippine nurse ...and still here in the Philippines

I passed the California NCLEX last 2005, May. I am looking for an employer but I found this Rochester , New York job,,good enough.

Now, I want to workwith them but what worries me is this..Do I need to take the New York NCLEX? ...remember, I donnot have a license number yet , because California wants an SSN before they issue a license..:sniff:

Does this mean I donnot have a license endorsemant yet?? oh well...because I donnot have a license yet. Can my NCLEX from California result be passed to New York.?? will New York accept this?

I spent for my NCLEX personally ...whcih was so expensive ..and so,,,I think, taking the NCLEX again in New York will just throw away my hard earned NCLEX in California.

Please answer this for me...I cannot think of other ways or person to ask..:scrying:

You don't need to take NCLEX again, but you do need to apply to NY BON for licensure and fulfil their requirements, including the CVS report.

NCLEX is a national exam, it is not state specific.

You will not be able to endorse, since there is no license to endorse to NY. You will need to use the License by Examination application for NY, in addition to having the CVS done by CGFNS........you will then just need CA to verify your results to NY............

Be aware that CGFNS is unable to use any documents that you may have submitted to them for any other process, they must obtain everything for NY, that is a requirement of NY.

Hope that this helps you..............:nuke:

thank you ...augigi, suzanne...you're a great help

one more thing..IF and WHEN..I do not arrive in the U.S. on May 2008,(which is the last date of the California BON to allow me to send the SSN.) what would happen to my NCLEX ? Do you think they would allow me an extension? if I write a letter about 6 months prior? that I am still in the Philippines?...

Do you think Cal, board has considered this ? INSPITS of the fact that I will be WORKING FOR a NEW york employer?

Thanks...so much..hope you could answer this too....I gotta decide for the sake of my Cali. NCLEX score.

The NCLEX result and the CA BON application are two different things. The three year limit is for the CA BON application. If you don't have the SSN you have to reapply and pay again, I don't think they grant extensions.

However, the NCLEX result I think is good for 10 years, so they can still tell NY BON your result.

Hi!

If CA BON does not grant extensions, then what exactly do we get after paying the reapplication fees?

Hi!

If you haven't given CA a SSN number within 3 years of passing they will not issue you with a license so when paying reapplication fees after 3 years and you provide them withyour SSN they will issue you with your license and check that you meet their requirements

If you meet their requirements, and reapply for licensure and provide a SSN, you get a CA license!

But what if you are still not able to get an SSN after 3 years? Will they still delete your files?

Do you recommend reapplying to another state that does issue licenses without SSN? I mean, all I have to do is request CA to send that other state with a letter stating that I passed NCLEX-RN, right?

Hi, there. People here would like to help you out but may we know why you are so worried about not being able to migrate w/in 3 years? The best one to answer your questions really is their licensing unit. Better contact them and hear it straight from them.

In that case, since you don't want to work in CA anymore, I'd just apply for Licensure by Exam to NY, fulfil their requirements including CVS report, get CA to tell them your NCLEX result (they won't delete this) and then get a NY license issued.
