University of Wyoming, advice

Published

I have been researching as many schools that I can that are completely on-line. I may be moving within the next year and the destination is uncertain. So this seems to be the best route. I have narrowed it down to two schools. I know i have seen the University of Wyoming mentioned on this board because that is where I got the idea. Anyone attending or who has attended on here now? I was wondering if you liked the program? What you don't like? Would you recommend the school to others? What would you say to a perspective student. Well, I would appreciate any insight!!! I have taken on-line classes at a local community college but a bit nervous about this. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

Specializes in Trauma ICU, MICU/SICU.
My nursing school is NLNAC accrediated and actually won praise. Well, they said is is not REGIONALLY (whatever that means) accrediated.

I believe what they mean by Regionally accredited is accredited by the Board of Nursing in your state.

suemom2kay, thanks. Apparently, it didn't matter anyway. Thanks for the explanation though.

I got my official acceptable letter today:)

I started my class the 20th, the format is a bit contusing but I think it will be ok. We have a lot in the class so like Lyv33 said our class is split in two groups. So far so good!!!

Paula, she sent me a eval though e-mail. I found a few errors so be careful! It wasn't official so I wasn't too worried.

Snowny, I thought I only had a few too. I was surprised I have several more than I thought. I had to take a lot of math. I am a diploma grad so we didn't take a lot of that in nursing school.

Hey its a start! To my knowledge (of course we'll see) i need stats, maybe college algebra, micro and one other that i can't recall. I didn't do a diploma program, but i took LOTS of classes to prep for my BSN before so hopefully i'm covered.

Good for you!!!!!!

I will tell you if you have no former healthcare profession and want to attend DCN you will need to do clinical rotations (which obviously are not online) but they are done in a hospital in your geographic area. -Opalm

OK... can you tell me what clinical rotations are, and how long they take to complete. I am so new at this... PLEASE HELP!

Clinical rotations are in conjunction with your theory classes. So for instance, you'll have classroom medical surgical nursing, then you'll have medical surgical clinicals to complete and apply what you learned. Clinicals is "practice" nursing. You will work as a student nurse under strict supervision of your instructor.

IF you are not a LVN/LPN or RN, then i would HIGHLY encourage you to find a program that is more traditional...i.e. NOT online. Learning and completing degrees online is for more advanced health care professionals who are already in the field of expertise. For instance, i've been a nurse for almost 10 years, and want to complete my bachelors degree (i have an associates from a traditional program). I have a broad range of experience in certain areas (pediatrics, post op cardiac surgery, telemetry, long term care, med-surg, a touch of ER) so for me to complete an online degree will only require didactic studies. No clinicals cuz i've already done them. Make sense? Clear as mud? lol

I'd make an appointment with a NURSING guidance counselor at some schools and check out your options. Depending on what pre-requisite classes you have will determine when you get started and finished. Once you start in a program for RN, usually takes 18-24 months give or take.

HTH! :)

hi guys,

need ur advice. Admissions sent me a letter saying i am admitted to the summer outreach program. However, they told me that my CUNY-city university of New York community college is not accepted. It is strange because my school is NLN accredited and one of top 3 largest community colleges in North east. DOes it mean they will not accept my pre-reqs like micro, a&P ,etc???? But how come they accepted my college from overseas? strange.....

any advice? thanks

Paula, call Maureen at the U of W and speak to her DIRECTLY. She's the one who will know for sure and can find out anything for you!!

thnx snowy,

i spoke to maureen who told me that she will sort it out with admissions herself. SHe said CUNY in NYC should be in their system. Anyway, once i get my license, automatically, they will transfer my nursing credits so she adviced me not not worry. hopefully, i can enroll for summer since i am already accepted , just needed that official eval of my transcript. Do u have any idea if they email or send by mail?

it says the tuition is 80 + 40 tech fee so that means 120/credit?

the summer sched is up fyi. :) i am taking pathophysio and health assessment --6 credits. im still with my final semester of nursing, graduating in june. classes start in may - august.

did anyone take this course? pliz let me know how hard it is considering i still have a month more of my final nursing sem....

thanks a lot

Maureen is really great isn't she? That's cool about your school tho, i knew she'd get it worked out for you. I think that the tuition is about $120 per credit hour, not totally sure. But still think that's totally reasonable compared to others. I'm not taking any summer classes (at least i'm not sure yet ) cuz i'm due to have my 3rd and final baby in March. lol So i'm "shooting" for Fall semester, although i may change my mind. who knows. lol 6 credits doesn't sound bad. Did you have to do a pathophys lower level class? Or is this the only one you are doing and is online? I need that one and a few others i THINK. We'll see tho. The more online for me the BETTER! lol

Good luck and keep us posted! I'm glad to know others are getting started with this one as well!!!!!

I have taken their Patho online class. It's not too bad. Just a lot of reading. The tests are all online without having to be proctored. I actually went to Hawaii a few weeks before the end of the class and was able to use my sister-in-law's computer to do the threaded discussions. So even though you are pregnant you probably would still be able to manage it.

Very cool. I'll check it out to see if i can pick it up this summer maybe if its offered online and such. At least i can participate on the computer and nurse at the same time if i need to! :chuckle :roll

Just checking in, this really does seem to be the best school out there for me. I am glad other think so too. I hope you all doing well, maybe we will have a class together :)
