University of Washington's BSN program 2014

Published

Good morning!

So I'm going to try this whole process over again, as a repeat offender...I mean applicant for UW's BSN program 2014. I applied last year, made it through the proctored essay portion but was not accepted. After nursing (haha) my wounds w/ large amounts of ice cream, chocolate & such, I've recently found my mojo to try again. Anyone else re-applying or 1st time applying for 2014? I know it's extremely early in the game, but those deadlines come up faster than you think! I've saved all the tips applicants that have applied more than once and hope that 2nd time is the charm.

Anyone else out there getting ready for it? We got this :D

Yes! I went off young idealist's replies from last year's posts. I saved what she advised and went back over them a few times until it clicked exactly what I needed to write. Then I just kept re-writing what I focused on my strength and weakness and which person I would pick (going off last year's essay) so when I saw that this year's was changed a little, but still along the same lines of questions, I could focus and narrow down what I wanted to say. I had a few cross outs too! And I put a note on the bottom that I passed my CNA test on the 7th but didn't have my certification yet and that's why my certification # wasn't on my resume...I also put that on the math portion lol, I just wanted to make sure they knew! I wish I was better at waiting...:wacky:

Haha yes young Idealist. She was a lot of help. Have you And everyone else applied to other places?

Were we not supposed to discuss examples from experience of our strengths and weaknesses? I wrote mine as here is my strength, here is an example of how I know I have that strength, here is how I will apply it and how it will grow in context of scenario 2. Is that a wrong approach? this is my first year applying and I felt decent about my app but I am afraid I may have screwed up the proctored essay....

Good to know about the math, but honestly I don't think I will get in because of the math portion. I feel like the essay was and awesome subject for me to write on, but everyone is feeling that way, which makes me thing they will grade the math more heavily. Also I am second guessing myself because I showed my work on the final paper on the math section, but I also did a lot of work on my scratch paper so now I am worried that I didn't show the right work because I didn't realize we would be throwing that extra paper away! ARGHH oh well I also applied to Linfield College in Portland so I have a backup, unless I don't get in to either, then I will just have to wait till next year and I will be practicing infusion, med calc questions for a solid year!

Uw hopeful, its good to provide examples of your experience. Accepted applicants all take different approaches. So sometimes it's unclear what they are looking for. I read and heard so many different ways accepted applicants did their app and proctored essay. Its a toss up Haha. Land I'm also scared about the math part but we will get through this =)

I am afraid that in including examples of my own experience, my proctored essay ended up being too similar to my personal statement. Have you ever heard of this being a problem for anyone?

From what I read in the past, that's what they were looking for, examples of your strengths and weakness from past healthcare examples & tie it into the current scenario from the proctored essay. It sounds like you did what they were looking for, don't give up yet. We are all sweating, worrying, over-thinking & stressing right there with ya!! :)

I'm going to apply to PLU, I missed the priority deadline but hoping to maybe be picked up for spring 2015...

Uwhopeful many applicants were worried. I'm sure you will be fine. Now I'm afraid I didn't provide enough examples. . Lol. Good thing school will distract me from my high anxiety. . Dory-oh hopefully You will be considered for spring! ^^

does anyone know if anyone was automatically admitted this year? I am just curious what the credentials of those people are

They said they havnt auromat admitted ppl in years

I also used young idealist's ideas for this essay. I thought the questions were better this year as well, maybe that's because I was expecting the worst haha. All we can do now is wait right? I didn't have any cross outs in the essay but because I tried to make that last math problem into some sort of physics riddle I had a lot of cross outs there.. and a "duh" next to the area I wrote in when I realized it was a simple matter of division

Hudabelle, do you feel better about it this year? I felt more organized but still don't know if what I wrote is what they're looking for
