UW BSN program 2015
I don't really remember chem problems, one of the math problems was like if a patient needs 30mg of drug X and the pills only come in 5 mg, how many pills will the patient take. I dont remember the other two, but one of them I got wrong and was still accepted. I think for me when writing the essay I read it line for line and literally did not want to leave one detail out. I have heard of some people approaching it as, take whatever pt would be hardest for you to manage and talk about how you took that patient to challenge yourself because you enjoy to be challenged. And I have also heard the approach pick the patient you have the most experience with and talk about how great your care will be because you have so much experience in this area. Honestly I didnt really go in to it with either mentalitys. I had made a list in my head of my strengths and weaknesses and most proctored essays will want to somehow know your stength in a situation and your weakness. I just read through the patient scenarios and when I found "my" scenario I just knew, this is the one. I would say just go in to it with an open mind and some personal strenghths and weaknesses in the back of your head. I agree with bsnprg, GET EXPERIENCE!! Whether you get in to the program or not, GET your hands wet in the health care world. For me this meant taking a HUGE pay cut, but my clinicals have been a breeze because of my experience. I love working in the hospital and for me this just solitified that fact that I am meant to be a nurse, whereas my friend realized nursing was NOT what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Volunteer hours are huge, but really working as a CNA or PCT is where you will benefit the most! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!!

I did get asked to write a proctored essay, I remember writing my personal essay to, and it SERIOUSLY took me months to come to a conclusion that I just needed to turn it in. For your personal essay they want to see you can juggle a lot, and that you are very independent. Also diversity is HUGE at UW so if you have anything to touch on diversity in your personal essay I definetely would. And Bubbly 33, you never know, every year they are looking for something different, but I do know clinical hours in the healthcare setting are super important and a letter of recomendation from an RN is huge. If for some crazy reason you dont get in to a school this year, which I am sure you will, I would get TONS of hours next year to add to your resume. Not only your resume tho, I seriously feel so blessed to have had clinical experience prior to nursing school because it has made my clinicals a cake walk. Overall I like the program, its been really hard for me but I hear other people say it has been really easy. Each to their own. I think at any program there will always be pros and cons. GOOD LUCK!!!

UW BSN program 2015
Hey guys!!! Just thought I would drop in for some good luck! I am a first year UW student and thought I would give you a little of my background. I applied to UW not not not expecting to get in, almost as joke (but obviously I put in TONS of time in to my application) my GPA is only a 3.2!! YUP only a 3.2!!!! At the time of my application I had worked as a CNA for 6 months in a nursing home, about 8 months at a hospital, and at the time I just got hired at a new hospital so I put that on my resume. For my volunteer hours I worked with a kids camp for abused and nelgected kids for about 5 years, and then was asked to be the director of a new mentor program where they pulled kids from the camp and we worked with them all year long. I was also a cheer coach so I could put that on my leadership area. I worked full time during school to pay my own way and I think they were able to see a could juggle a lot. I am also fluent in ASL so I could put that I am bilingual. Anywho!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!! They arent always looking for the best GPA, just somoene who knows what they are getting themselves in to!!! I will check back ocasionally if you guys have any questions I will do my best to answer!

7 years ago I decided I wanted to be a nurse. My mom and dad (Love them to death) told me I wasnt smart enough to be a nurse and that I should go to beauty school or be a receptionist. I failed math 98 and 99 all together six times. I worked night shift at the hospital while trying to pay for my school and pass my AWFUL pre-reqs. I failed the TEAS test three times and didnt get in to two schools I applied for. I only have a GPA of 3.4 and I was told by multiple professors that my grades werent high enough to get in to a nursing program. If my high school teachers knew I got in to UW school of nursing they would laugh in your face. I share this to tell you to not give up. Keep pushing. Keep your head up. Dont let not getting in define you! If you are suppposed to be a nurse you will be a nurse! God bless you all!

I am officially freaking out, when I was reading my e-mail I could see myself in each section as to common reasons they don't accept applicants. I am so nervous, I don't want to check my mailbox now!!! Especially after already receiving my rejection letter.
