I too am trying to start this application for the DNP program...and feel lost as heck! I am about to graduate with my BSN from a school in Wisconsin and so I believe my chances are looking pretty slim. May I ask which DNP specialty you are applying for?

I have no tips and tricks but I am also planning on applying. Just like the previous poster I am graduating from my BSN in Spring2017... I'm pretty sure my chances are also slim...
I'm hoping to apply to the Adult/Gerontology track or possibly Mental Health/Psych still deciding. You guys?

Don't be discouraged.
GO TO THE INFORMATION SESSIONS!
I cannot stress this enough. Everything you need to know to have a competitive application comes directly from the sessions. I would say that a large number of the people who actually attended the sessions are in my cohort. They have you sign in as well so I wouldn't be surprised if that figures into the scoring of your application. Also, much of the AACN's DNP essentials are tied into the application since those are the foundation of the program. Anything you can do to tie those essentials into your essay will help.
Ask questions and be assertive and proactive. Don't expect them to spoon feed you everything. You should do some basic searching on the UW Nursing website before you ask a question.
For those who don't have clinical experience, I wouldn't fret too much. If memory serves me, only one of the tracks requires recent clinical experience (Acute Care Adult Gero). A surprising number of people rolled straight from the BSN into a DNP.
Good luck to anyone who is applying. It was definitely the most challenging application packet I've filled out.

That is such a bummer for those of us who live out of state. Doesn't seem fair.
Hello Thanksforthedonuts! Are you applying to the adult-gero acute care or primary care? I am also applying for fall 2017.
I don't have any tips, as I am applying as well! Which track are you applying for?

Hi guys! I applied to the Psych track for fall of 2017 --- phew, that was a doozy of an application! Did you guys apply to other places as well? Is UW your top choice? UW is my #1 (at the moment!) but I also applied to Seattle U. Counting down the days til we start finding out! Does anyone know if they conduct interviews for this program? Hope to hear from you guys and other applicants!

Great! Just what we need, a bunch of eggheads with terminal degrees and no real world experience tellin' everybody else what to do.
When I did my BSN my cohort was combined with direct-entry MSN students in our first year so I know quite a few people who went on to become NPs. Some of them didn't work AT ALL during their program, even after they'd earned their RN… literally never practiced in a clinical setting until their first day on the job as NPs. Pretty alarming.

I don't believe they do interviews. UW is my top choice too!
