3.9 GPA from an accelerated nursing program, inpatient RN for 3 years on various different hospital units (mostly on psych floors, primarily adult psych, behavioral ED, and chemical detox). Not sure what made me stand out and it's hard to tell since UW doesn't interview its candidates. I was always of the mindset that ~2 years of nursing experience is a soft requirement of most NP schools but in this whole application process at various schools I'm learning that many people can go straight into NP school without ever practicing as an RN.

Ahhhh hopefully not April! :) Another burning question I have for you guys: how many of you work full-time or are planning to work should we be so lucky to get into the program? I currently work full-time and hope there's a way to hang onto my job for as long as I can… Anyone else in the same situation? I've heard that classes the first year are typically just one day a week but this was from someone who was in the program several years ago...

When I did my BSN my cohort was combined with direct-entry MSN students in our first year so I know quite a few people who went on to become NPs. Some of them didn't work AT ALL during their program, even after they'd earned their RN… literally never practiced in a clinical setting until their first day on the job as NPs. Pretty alarming.

Hi guys! I applied to the Psych track for fall of 2017 --- phew, that was a doozy of an application! Did you guys apply to other places as well? Is UW your top choice? UW is my #1 (at the moment!) but I also applied to Seattle U. Counting down the days til we start finding out! Does anyone know if they conduct interviews for this program? Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have started looking into housing options yet? May feels like it's just around the corner and I haven't done much to figure out my living situation yet (let alone visit the school...whoops!) I'm taking a trip up to Portland next week to look around and try to get acquainted a bit with the facilities but was wondering if anyone has any tips for housing? Ideally I would like to find a single apartment somewhere, or room with a fellow nursing student-- not that I know such a person... anyone interested? :)

Congrats, pvd2me! I look forward to meeting you! Well, now that we have 3 reported acceptances perhaps I can try to get a discussion going... I am currently living in New Hampshire and have visited Portland only a few times but from the brief visits I've definitely become impressed with the area and am very excited to move there. After all, Forbes magazine has ranked it as #1 for America's most livable cities! I have not visited USM yet so I don't know anything about the nursing school facilities. Has anyone else seen them and what are your thoughts? What are you guys most nervous about going into this? I am slightly nervous about not having taken Microbiology and hoping that it won't set me back once we begin the coursework. I have completed all of the prereq's and have 2 semesters of Bio and Chemistry each so I hope that this may somehow compensate for not having taken Microbiology.

MissChloe, I wouldn't stress too much about the timing of the acceptance letters. I've read on previous threads that many people didn't hear back until late December or early January. I bet already being a nursing student at USM stacks the odds in your favor! Good luck and hope to hear from you soon. Hey, Tank16! Hi all, Just curious if there's a presence on this board for newly accepted USM ABSN students or people applying to the program? I got my acceptance letter last week and want to chat with people about what we're in for!
