University of Washington BSN 2016

Hey Guys!

Didn't see anyone start one yet for this application round for UW nursing and though may as well start one.

Hopefully this will help everyone out that reads this, and that joins into the conversation.

Ive been reading the past BSN application posts, and already learned a lot of info!

Hey everyone! Just found this page, super excited and mostly nervous about the essay. The not knowing part is so difficult!

Sorry Ding72, I've been pretty busy this weekend and haven't logged on. But everything Jdavidson mentioned was on point. They are like questions you are asked at job interviews.

Good luck to all of you tomorrow! I'm going over basic conversions, nurse math, and writing down some of my strengths/weaknesses to use for essay.

To those who have taken the proctored essay,

How do they want you to respond to the questions? Do they want to know how you would take care of them? Do you use your hands on health experience to answer the questions? Or more of your qualities and how you would tackle the situation...?

wow, FINALLY got my email lol..I will see you guys there! They usually have you pick a patient and then describe why you chose that particular patient. Then usually something about what strengths and weaknesses you would have taking care of this patient...and usually one more question about diversity and how your past healthcare experience would help you in this situation...usually something along those lines at least, it's hard to remember because it will literally be one big blur!! And the hour goes by CRAZY fast! One of my biggest recommendations is to wear a wrist watch so you can quickly look at the time. The clocks on the wall are super tiny. Also, figure out how to divide your time and stick to it. DO NOT try to write out an entire rough draft. Maybe bullet point a quick rough draft and go from there. I think each time I did it I was able to format it into a five paragraph essay just fine; you'll have I think five or so questions to answer in your essay and usually a few math questions. And they require that you show all of your math work so I would practice some drip rate conversion questions and other simple math questions that you can find on the internet so you aren't struggling. GOOD LUCK! I'm hoping third times the charm haha!

Oh wow thank you so much!!! third time will be the charm, you got this!

Anyone else stress eating? I had pizza and ice cream for lunch :wacky:

Haha! You'll do fine! Go for a run, or do some pushups/sit-ups, something productive to relieve the stress. Also, try and get a good nights sleep.

Good luck everyone!! Take care of yourselves today. The stress and anxiety won't help us tonight (easier said than done - I know). Thanks to everyone who shared their past experiences and made going into this a little less mysterious and scary! :nailbiting:

I also think that last year they asked how the experience will help you in your professional career. I agree that the hour was a blur, so i can't exactly remember.

How did everyone do? I started with the math and then picked Scenario 2 for the essay...overall I think I did well, but not spectacular.

I took the same approach by getting the math done first. I felt like the math questions weren't too bad. I chose scenario 1 and hope I wrote well enough. Let's hope the next month goes by quickly!
