University of Southern California (USC) - Anyone graduated the program?

Updated:   Published

Hi, I'm researching on schools to start my FNP program. I'm interested in USC online program & I heard USC just got accredited. I have to keep my full time job ( 3 days a week flexible though). I want to know if anyone graduated from USC online FNP program and is it doable while working three days ? And how was the board?

Thanks

I'm in the program right now on the part time track. Its very rigorous so if you have no other responsibilities- no kids, needy spouse etc, then you can do it. However that's on a part time school schedule. They strenuously discourage you from working full time for full or part time track. And once you are in clinicals, that's at least 2 day shifts per week, on top of your work shifts, not counting your classroom coursework... yeah super intense. I wouldn't try full time work with the full time school track. Its a great program though!

I'm in a part-time program and fulltime work. I'm dying haha I'm always drowning every week because I only have 4 days left for school. Im planning of doing full time by January and not working. I simply can no longer go on without a life for more than a year. I just go to work, and study for the program. I have no life outside of it. I got no kids though.

Sometimes, you need 3 days for clinical Becasue of the availability of preceptors.

How much is tuition for the program? I can't seem to find it online

I got accepted into CSUSM's FNP and USC's FNP program for Fall 2020. CSUSM is a public school whereas USC is a private university. I need help making a decision. Obv, USC has more prestige but is very costly at 90K+ and CSUSM is comparatively cheaper than USC. Would it matter if I went to CSUSM versus USC. BTW, I did attend CSUSM for my BSN degree. I estimated the cost for attending CSUSM to be around 40-50K. Not sure if it's a good time to be going back to school with this corona virus pandemic. Perhaps, I should wait a year and reapply for school and save more money. Please advise and Thank you.

@RN_518,BSN What did you end up choosing? I am curious because I am in the same boat regarding CSUSM or USC FNP for Fall 2020?

@renzlao May I ask what the schedule was like for your live online classes at USC? (Were you given a choice, were they consistently at certain times of the day?). Thanks so much.

Yeah it's like enrolling in a regular class. You pick the day (usually T, W, Thurs ) and time of your choice (between 10 to 7pm PST). But instead of going to school you log in online and attend a zoom class of only a maximum of 12 students. Most students pick classes after 6 pm and late classes tend to get full and closed in minutes of web registration.
I find it better actually. With only 12 students per class, the instructor can devote more attention to each student. I had to come in class prepared too (which one should be, because they call out everyone and I couldn't hide haha

Thanks so much for replying. It's a relief knowing there are a few class time options.

Given comparable pass rates. I would attend the less expensive option. The curriculum is the same in all schools because boards require that FNP students take a specific set of classes. USC does not offer any extra classes or resources that other nursing schools don't have. Although the school is in Los Angeles, USC hires outside for profit companies which are not located in the area, to manage major parts of the program such as curriculum information and clinical sites. Students have to correspond with these companies and the university itself during the program. Unfortunately, USC is not accountable for the quality of these contracted businesses since they are not part of the university. Most state schools in California are streamlined and a great value for the education.
