University of South Alabama FNP

I am applying to USA's FNP program for this fall. I would love to hear from someone who is currently attending or who has recently graduated from this program. Did you have trouble finding clinical preceptors? Are the professors available if you have questions or concerns? How often do you have to visit campus? Overall, are you satisfied with the education you are receiving?

Thanks

Hi,

I did apply for FNP online for this summer. I have no idea how long it will take before I hear back from them... if I get accepted... I read a lot of positive and negative feedbacks about USA. As far as application process, the staff was pretty helpful. What state are you from?

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I live in Tallahassee, FL. What about you? Florida State is here in Tallahassee but it's a DNP program and right now I'm really just interested in the MSN. I was going to apply to both, but now the deadline is close and I still haven't taken the GRE, which is required at FSU. So I guess I'll just apply to USA and see what happens. Good luck to you. I hope you hear something soon.

I'm from MD. Univ of MD has good programs, but no FNP program is on line. I wanted something on line. I just wonder what my chances are to get in... Do you have an idea what GPA people are getting in with?

Hi ira1027,

I'm not sure. Have you talked to anyone in admissions about GPA? Their website says a minimum of 2.75, but I don't know how many applicants they get. I imagine they would accept the applicants with higher GPA's first, but I would also think they would look at experience as well. I have a high GPA, but I took 5 years off from nursing to stay home with my kids and have only worked in an office setting since returning, so I'm a little worried about that. Hopefully you will hear something soon.

Hi Ira, I'm from MD also--I'm considering applying to USA, because I need a school that will accept a GPA of 2.98, and Univ. of MD won't =( My concern is that I won't be able to find preceptors for clinical...anybody out there have insight on this?

Hi Nicole 109,

where do you live in MD? I am in Baltimore. I hope I will be able to find preceptors since Baltimore has multiple hospitals, etc.

Hi Ira--I live in Baltimore also--have you spoken to USA about the way that they place you for clinicals, as a student are you expected to find your own sites, or do they do some of the leg work for you? I know that some of the online programs leave you on your own to find clinical sites and if you can't find one, then you don't proceed in the program, and they don't really care =(

I haven't talk to USA about it. I think they offer NIH for clinicals as their site. This is far away from me. I live in Towson. But in worst case, if I wont's be able to find anything else... I will have to go there. I will try to call them and ask.

Hi,

I finished the FNP program at USA last fall. It was very intensive but the instructors were always there to help me along the way. You are responsible for finding your preceptors, but that really wasn't that difficult. I spoke with the program director and almost everyone who meets the admissions requirements gets accepted. I say almost because the applicants who are right on the line usually haven't gotten accepted. Hope this helps!

Hi,

Can you tell me a little about the clinical focus? How many places did you do clinicals at? Can it be your place of employement? Did you work full-time throughout this program.

Thanks
