University of San Francisco Summer 2014 MSN CNL for non-nurses

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello everyone,

This thread is for the University of San Francisco Masters in Clinical Nurse Leader Program for non-nurses (Summer 2014 cohort) I didn't see one so I decided to make one. Anyone else applying?

There's another thread regarding this, as pixelizedalexis mentioned. However, I wanted to let you guys know that I'm at USF and it's a great program. There are a few teachers that are a real miss, however, most of them will be hits. Plan on being absolutely exhausted during your psych and medsurg rotation. GOOD LUCK!

Hey everyone!

I'm glad I found this thread! I have been reading all the old ones but this is my first time posting. I am applying to USF and SF State. I am ready to submit my application (super last minute) but one of my professors STILL hasn't submitted my letter of rec. He did the same thing to me with the SF State app, and he hasn't responded to my reminder e-mail that I send a couple days ago. I also electronically re-sent the notification from the application and told him the e-mail address it would be coming from in case it went to spam. Sigh, this is very stressful. Sorry for ranting but does anyone know what happens if he doesn't submit my letter by the deadline? I really don't want my application to not be accepted after all this just because of something that was out of my control.

@futurenurseshelly I would call both of the school's direct nursing department to find out. Best of luck to you!

Hi Everyone,

Just a heads-up, I am in the USF-MSN (CNL) for the non-nurse program right now. I remember how stressful the application process was and really appreciated the help from current students at that time so I hope to do the same for some of you.

With that said, being in the program, it's very demanding....so I won't be on this forum to read it or respond too often, but I will try here and there.

For now, you have submitted your application so try and let it go. I know that's easier said than done, but the "what if" mind games will truly serve no purpose other than causing undo stress. Just the fact that you've made it this far (completing an undergraduate program, pre-reqs, etc) is noteworthy. So pat yourself on the back and realize that regardless of the outcome of this application, you will someday have your RN license from somewhere.

Cheers to all of you! :)

Thank you @futurenurse1109. I ended up having someone else submit a letter for me that she had already written for sf state. I just wish he had sent his, because his letter that he submitted to sf state (the day before the app was due) was awesome, he wrote really nice things about me and I did really well in his class. So that was just a bummer. Maybe he can still submit the letter late, but at least I have the 2 I needed.

So HUGE mistake on my part -- I received an email today saying my application was incomplete. Just realized that one of my LOR's didn't get submitted (it went to her spam folder). Totally thought I checked and saw that she completed the LOR, but I guess it must have slipped. Been trying to get in touch with Susana but she's been away from her desk. Does anyone know if this means I'm completely out for this application period? All of my other applications went so smoothly I'm totally killing myself over this!!!! :arghh:

uclatrueblue -- Oh no! How many completed letters do you have? When I went to the info session, they said that they only want to see two letters of rec... so even if you submit three, chances are they'll just read the first two. If you only have one letter, hopefully your other recommender can quickly come up with something and send it to their office? I'm not sure. Good luck!

uclatrueblue: Same thing happened to me! Except that I was aware that one of my providers hadn't submitted my letter and I had been trying and trying to get in contact with him (he did agree to submit my letter) but he never got back to me. Luckily I was able to have someone else submit a letter for me, so I have the minimum two, but I didn't take him off the provider list, so it still says my application is incomplete. I was hoping that since I had 2 letters I would still be okay. I called my professor but he still hasn't gotten back to me and I e-mailed USF grad admissions. I sure hope this does not put us out of the running, I've worked so hard on my application. Good luck to you!

update: I called USF and apparently the e-mail was an automated message to people whose applications haven't been processed yet. She said it didn't have to do with recommendation letters (idk if that's the case for you uclatrueblue). Since I submitted my application on Feb 15 (can we say last minute) it hasn't been processed yet, and that's why I got the e-mail. I hope it goes well for you, try calling the school, I got an answer right away and was able to clear things up.

Thanks everyone!!! I was able to reach their office just now. My person just submitted the LOR today this morning and they said that's totally okay. They're still going through and verifying everyone's application. As long as the actual application was submitted before the deadline it seemed like it's okay.

What a relief! Haha seems like the chaos of applications & waiting to hear from schools is starting to get to me :wacky:

Just an FYI to everyone, USF has just increased tuition by 2.9%.

Wow @StephenAndrews thanks for the update! I have already been stressing about how I would pay if I were accepted to this program! This is CRAZY! Anyone who is attending or currently attends USF, what is your advice for financing this high cost education? Do you feel that you are getting your $ worth? Do you feel like the education here far supersedes the education elsewhere? Looking at NCLEX pass rates was somewhat eye opening for me because there are several very inexpensive programs with high pass rates. Just interesting to review. Here is the link

Anyway, would love to hear advice from any of the existing or past cohorts?
