University of San Francisco Summer 2014 MSN CNL for non-nurses

Published

Hello everyone,

This thread is for the University of San Francisco Masters in Clinical Nurse Leader Program for non-nurses (Summer 2014 cohort) I didn't see one so I decided to make one. Anyone else applying?

@Lbfb yeah I'm going a little crazy too, but trying to be patient and not get my hopes up (or down) too much. I also applied to SF state so waiting for that as well.

@pixelizedalexis it was the intro to sociology requirement. The class I took was called social problems and it covered a lot of the same stuff as an intro class, so I'm glad it counted.

ahh the wait is killing me. Hopefully we find out really soon!

Dum dee dum. I agree, the anticipation is killer. I just want to know.

So, where's everyone from? I'm from Sacramento area, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about living arrangements if I get in. My grandma lives in the bay area (Danville), I actually stay with her a few days a week already to help her with medications and meals and stuff, and I could stay with her while I'm in school, but the commute seems like it would be way too much of a hassle. And I'm getting ahead of myself as usual.

I hope we find out on time!

I live in the Peninsula area, so I'm not too far. I will probably live with my parents I guess... but I will hate it. Haha. I'm wondering about what I should do while in school. I currently work full-time and the commute is ~2 hours there and back, so I'm sure I will have to leave my job sadly.

Hi everyone!! I applied last cohort and yes they sent out acceptances way late...i was part of the waitlist. I was just recently at USF and talked with one of the nursing department administrators and she said that they will have initial decisions in the next 3 weeks. So that puts it about mid April. What ever you do dont compare yourself to other that have applied to the program, USF gets about 200 applications per cohort and they all look the same, they rely on your letters of req and your personal statement more than you gpa and stats. Im hoping that this term I will get in since I now have all the pre-reqs done before the deadline.

Also, if there are enough students that live near San Ramon/Danville we should all commute together. Some students from last cohort were doing this as well. Since classes typically start around 10am we would miss most of the traffic to the city.

I wish you all luck...dont stress about the wait though. If you dont get in start looking for other programs, next app period is fall.

@Nicolekay: You're from San Ramon/Danville? I'm so torn (here I go getting ahead of myself again...). It would reallllly help me out financially not to have to pay for housing by staying with my grandma, but the idea of living with her for 2 years while I'm in nursing school just does not sound appealing for me. She's a little crazy (she has dementia), and there would always have to be someone else living there too since I would be in school a majority of the time and she needs constant supervision. But having people to commute with would make it a little easier.

I guess I shouldn't put too much thought into it until I actually know if I got in or not, but I can't help it. What else am I supposed to do during this waiting period? lol.

@futurenurseshelly well if we both get in this term we can definitely look into carpooling together. Ill save money where ever I can. My other option is to live in the city with my sister-in-law and commute with her...she works at USF :) Buuuut Ill be married by this point and will miss my hubby and my fur chidren, so Im not sure what Im going to do yet....just sitting here waiting. lol

@Nicolekay I know what you mean about saving money, especially if you would be living with hubby and fur babies. I have to leave my s/o in Sac cuz he's finishing up his schooling at Sac State, so unfortunately no matter where I live would be away from him :( That's cool that your sis-in-law works at USF though.

Ah I'm getting so anxious waiting to find out, I hope we get in.

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I applied for last year's cohort as well and I was also wait-listed. I agree with @Nicolekay, the letters went out really late! I believe people were getting notified the same week or the week prior to start date. :nailbiting: It was driving everyone crazy including myself. But crossing fingers to getting in this time around.

Do you guys think we will know by next week? I'm going crazy waiting!

Hello all! I applied in Feb. 14 (super late I know) and I am waiting for the decisions as well. It's so unnerving. I wish everyone the best of luck though. :)

For those who applied twice, did you guys have to write a new personal statement and get new letters of rec? Do you also know if they would look at your old letters and ps if I was to apply again?

@phillycakes. I applied for the spring of 2013 and was waitlisted but never got off the waitlist. I applied again for summer 2014 and they told me to make my application as different as possible. I'm sure you can submit the same ps and references, but if you don't make it this time around then id recommend redoing everything so it's a different application. Otherwise, you could end up with the same answer. Hopefully we get in and don't have to worry about that. :)

I'm so nervous. I really want to hear back from them. I live in southern cali so the earlier I know and can make plans, the better.
