Hi All,
Started this thread in anticipation of the March 1st deadline for applications to the University of San Francisco Nursing Program (Fall 2017). This is my second time applying and I am hoping is my last time lol. Anyways if you want to chat about the process don't be shy. I've been looking on past threads and was on one for last semester (Spring 2017) and found this to be helpful even though I didn't get in @USFCA. My stats are listed below if anyone is intrested to take a look. The only variables I have changed since my last application was me finishing psychology, art history, and california history.
Stats
I also volunteer at a local hospital once a week for 4 hours (Started last August). I have 4.5 years EMT experience. I'm only currently taking sociology for this semester and this will be the first time I've not taken at least 12 units at my community college. Look forward to your responses!!!!
Truebluefoo, I can't compare CSUEB and USF directly since I only have experience with CSUEB, but I can try to help. I don't think you would be disappointed with CSUEB at all. My clinical rotations have been wonderful, my classmates are great, and while the professors do vary in their teaching ability, they are all passionate about nursing and care about their students a great deal. Some of the professors are fantastic, and some are not the most compelling lecturers, which is probably true of any nursing program in the country. My two clinical instructors have been wonderful. You mentioned caring about grades and so far, I have all As, but I will tell you I have worked hard for those As, much harder than for pre-reqs. But it's doable, especially if you don't have kids or a job. So your choice should come down to cost and commute. Some of my classmates do commute from San Francisco, but that would be miserable for me. If you can move to Hayward or close by, you will be happy with CSUEB. At my clinical rotation now, there are several CSUEB grads. :-)
I was offered a choice between Hayward and Concord and chose Hayward because of where they did their clinicals (although there is some overlap). I did not want to be driving out to Antioch for example. As you might know, CSUEB is changing from quarters to semesters and Concord might have a different timeline mapped out for them than Hayward--something that may matter to you. I think you mentioned that you are ex-military and there are several former and current military nursing students at both campuses, I'm pretty sure. Definitely at Hayward.
Hello future nurses! Congrats to those who have been accepted and for those who have not heard don't give up! I am a current nursing student at USF and just finishing up my first year. I have a room available to share or private starting when in August when the semester starts, 5-10 minutes from campus! If you are interested message me if you have any questions. My e-mail is [email protected].

I guess I have the money to go, it will be offset by GI bill. But I will also get into CSUEB, and already admitted to CSULA and that would be fully paid for because it is a state school. So, I'm really kind of at a crux over whether USF will provide me that much more of a valued education for the $$. Also my main concern is getting a high GPA as I plan to re enter the military, and first thing healthcare recruiters look at is GPA (your license is assumed). From what I'm gathering it sounds like USF kind of hammers on the students, I've talked to a few. I'm still undecided, I'm all ears right now. Anything helps.
