Hello!
I know it's still early on in the game but I was wondering if anyone applied for USFs BSN program for spring 14? I just applied. IF so, do you mind sharing your GPA, Volunteer/Work experience? :)
Today I got my rejection letter from USF. And oddly, I am okay and at peace with the fact. I thought I would be absolutely devastated, but I am actually happy that I don't have to wait any longer. I am getting straight A's this quarter and fall applications are in one month!
For the people who did not get in, DONT SLOW DOWN AT THE ROAD BLOCK.
DONT think of backing out of being a nurse. If we are meant to be nurses, we must take this struggle as a road to triumph. Without struggle there is no triumph. Now I am more sure that I want to go to USF and that I WILL be a nurse. It doesn't matter when. I just know that I will be.
CONGRATULATIONS to the people who got in. You all deserve it and I am happy to see that your qualifications are up to par with USFs standards. Im sure they've made the right decisions.
For all of us, accepted or not... this is the time to push harder than ever. if youre starting nursing, or if were trying to get in... we've got to work harder than ever before.
Keep pushing guys. Good luck to everyones career path.
hey everybody,
I am new to this site and I have been reading all the amazing stories and qualifications you all have, impressive! I am anxiously waiting my letter of acceptance/rejection. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.66 with a all A's in prerequisites except in Anantomy/Physio I have a B. I have taken general physics (and aced them) and calculus (received a B), my advisor wrote my letter of rec including all of this! IDK if it helps but hey why not? I am a bilingual in Spanish and I have done plenty of volunteer work including SFGH and currently at a Food Pantry. I am a caregiver for special needs individuals and hope to finish my bachelors at USF! I wish everybody, who has not heard yet, luck. Congrats to those who have gotten accepted and to those who have been denied, there's always a reason why. I am a nervous wreck!! Does anybody know if we can call and ask if our application has been decided upon?

Gcollazos, where didu take your prereqs. Just curious I took mine and did my general ed at City College. I'm also a caregiver, fluent in both English and Spanish. I'm conversational in Russian and Italian as well. Took care of an elderly woman until she was 104 years old and a child with trisomy x. And did some volunteer work with the sf food bank. I'm currently battling 2 immune disorders so if I don't get in this semester it's just fine with me. I also applied at SMU but did not get in :/
Thx gcollazos!
Your application sounds competitive. One thing that sets USF aside is their whole holistic approach selecting applicants. I know a couple of people who have applied in the past with bachelors or even a masters degree that couldn't get in. That made me feel horrible applying. But if I can get in, from CCSF with a 3.2 GPA, anything is possible. SO it seems that spilling your guts out and writing a stellar essay and having great letters of recommendation is a must!

I took all of mine at CSU East Bay, the nursing program there is pretty good but its damn near 4.0 average to get in. You sound like an amazing applicant, conversational in Russian and Italian?!?! Im impressed! Im trying to learn portuguese. Im so sorry to hear about your immune disorder, I am a great believer in Karma and the person you seem to be with the work you have done, something good is coming your way. Best of Luck with everything, you're an inspiration!

congrats on your acceptance! your words make me feel a bit better but then again a GPA is just a GPA. Yours is just as competitive and looks where it has gotten you ! My letter of rec is just all honesty and straightforward in the person i am. If it is meant to be it will be! I will post as soon as i get notified.
@gcollazos
Truly one of the reasons why USF was one of my top choices is because of their approach in selecting applicants. In all honestly, as I used to work in an operating room, and being around plenty of nurses already, the job is more of an internal one that comes from within. Other schools that require GPA's in 4.0 range seem to be looking at the wrong things in their applicants, and do not (in my opinion) obtain those that really want to be in the profession, but cannot, due to whatever circumstances that might have happened affecting GPA.

For CCSF, I applied last year and just hearing about a spot that opened up recently, I got a call last Friday about it. At first I didn't make the list of selected applicants. So that means they left me with a short amount of time to get ready for their Spring semester of 2014.
As for USF, they must want to keep me in suspense because I haven't heard anything yet! I think on the application I elected to be notified by both email and mail.
