University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Well, that's really nice! The only relatives I have in New York happen to live in Queens, which is on the other side of the state. So they wouldn't be of much help lol. I hope the housing market isn't too expensive to rent up there. Since I'm a guy also, maybe if we both get in and decide to attend Rochester, I just might hit you up on subleasing a house or something. We'll see.

To be honest, this was the only accelerated BSN program I applied to. There was an accelerated MSN program here in Texas, the only one in the state that was available, which was UT-Austin's AE MSN program. I applied there.

What about you?

Sounds like a plan! I also applied to Drexels ABSN program, and am planning on applying to UMass Boston this February(Depending on if I get into UR or Drexel). I was going to apply to some schools back here(CA), but there are so many budget cuts, and it's really hard to be competitive.

The weather is actually horrible right now...well, to a native San diegan anyway :D. It is raining right now and is a whopping 50 degrees. It's funny because my friends from other states are coming to visit soon and are so excited about the weather and I have to tell them all it's been cloudy and rainy for like a week now! I am sure it is NOTHING compared to the weather in Rochester - I hear that is one of the coldest parts of NY. Did you apply to UCSF also as you are in the bay area?

Hey, has anyone applied for private loans yet? Do you apply per semester or per school year?

as cold as it gets in the bay area, it never snows, so snow in rochester will definitely be something new. i didn't apply to ucsf. i've heard good and bad things about the program. my friend's gf who goes there doesnt like the hectic administration and i've read about people who quit half way into the program. i'm not competitve enough to get in, don't want to hate nursing before i even begin because of nursing school, and also happened to miss the deadline to submit applications.

does anyone know if a second interview for the ampnn program is granted to everyone? or selective. i know everyone gets the first interview, but i was curious about the second.

Hey Jane,

I just recently put a security deposit for the hosue on 168 Irvington. I haven't met the other incoming girl yet, but would love to start corresponding w/others that are coming in. I don't think I have mailing compabilities yet here. Let me know if you end up going!!

Good Luck :)

Hey Clara,

I saw that you visited Rochester. I'm trying to figure out housing now. Are there only houses there or do they have single apartments near the hospital? Thanks!

Hey,

I've been living in Rochester for the past 3 years since I go to U of R for undergrad. I lived off campus last year in an apartment (Elmwood Manor Apts), but it was not in the white coat ghetto. The white coat ghetto neighborhood is almost all houses, I don't know of any apartments that are within walking distance. But, there may be a few complexes a bit farther away (I'm not positive) that you may be able to bike - given weather permits, which rarely happens from Dec-March.

There are multiple houses that are rented out by room to students at Strong, like studenthousingrochester.com. The way renting these houses works pretty much like an apartment - you have your own room and usually your own bathroom - but you have common shared spaces (living room, kitchen, etc).

Renting only a room lets you skip the stress of finding roommates, worrying about everyone paying bills on time, etc. It's common for the students in these houses to be in a similar program - which can be good or bad - but often you'll see a familiar face. I just recently put down a deposit for a room in a house on Crittenden and it's 100 yards across the street from the hospital, which is a HUGE plus to me.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, I was completely overwhelmed when I moved to Rochester from NJ and had to figure all this stuff out!

Thanks for the info - it really helps. I think it is great that you only have to rent your room and not worry about the other rooms. Walking distance is important in the Rochester climate. Own bath room - huge plus. Are you for the January, May or August class? Nice website on www.whitecoatghetto.com

I applied for the May 2011 cohort! What about you?

Hey Jane,

I'm in for the January class. I'm so excited! I was looking at the house at 44 Irvington, but I haven't decided for sure yet. What about you?
