Hello everyone!

I would like to know if anyone has any information about the RN to BSN program at the University of Phoenix. They have an online program and I am very interested in attending. Has anyone had a good experience or a bad experience with them? Do you actually learn for the money you have to pay?? I would appreciate any information. Thank you!

hey,

as a new grad adn they told me I needed 1 year clinical exp first before enrolling........

They never told me that. I was just out of school 6 months when I enrolled.

I got my MBA for U of Phoenix back in 1986 in Phoenix. My program was in-house at the time and I loved it. One of the best learning experiences that I ever had. One of my friends got her BSN and MSN through a program in Mi and loved it.

I would definitely recommend them..............................

Hey - I'm here too! Well - I graduate from UofP May 19th with the BSN part done!!! Yippee! I've done it in 18 months! Its been fast and furious - but well worth the effort. I am going right into the MSN part too and hopefully will be done next year! Have really enjoyed it - met some wonderful people and only two slackers in the entire 13 classes I've taken. The learning teams can make or break you, but you just gotta keep encouraging people. Like one of the other posters stated - you keep focused and in five weeks - there's 3 more credit hours done! Take care and good luck!

I wasn't told that either. I already have clinical experience so maybe that was the reason. I will check on that. Thanks!!

Patrick,

I am having the same problem with my LT, I did the whole thing myself with a little help form one of the others. The third person did nothing :angryfire So do you think the professor checks the LTs to se who is and who is not working? I am very frustrated and really don't think the third person should get credit for something she didn't do. Over all I love UOP and hopefully will go for a MSN.

Your name dosen't sound familiar. I have just started UOP and am only in my second class.

Helen

Hi Helen .... how long have you been attending UoP? Are you currently in a class? I just finished Health and Disease Management (whew ... that was a rough one!) and made it through. I wonder if we have been in classes together.

I love UoP and would not want to go back to the traditional ground college, but I am not thrilled with the learning team concept. My last LT was terrible. This was the first time that I had a poor learning team. In my other classes, the LT were great and we accomplished great things together, but this last class fried my last nerve when the learning team would not come together on our assignments. I finally had to finish the project myself and email it to the professor with an statement that no one helped. She already knew there were problems.

Overall, UoP is the best. When do you graduate and are you going on for your MSN? Great to see other UoP BSN students on this forum.

Patrick:)

Treddrn,

I am taking classes for BSN now and am in my second class. LOVE IT :) I only wish I would have started sooner. As RNPATL said there are some non-workers but the whole experience has been worth it.

Helen

Thank you so much for replying about UOP. I was about to give up. I was getting scared because I thought no one knew anything about UOP. I plan to start 26 Feb 04. WHEW!!!!!!! I feel so much better.

RNPATL what exactly is the learning team concept? Is it something like doing a group project in a traditional college? If so, I have not had that great of a time with group projects. Like you mentioned, not everyone participates like they should.

Thank you so much!!! I feel as though I have made the right decision for me!!:)

Thank you Lisasmom and RNPATL. Your words have been very encouraging. I am very nervous and I hope to do very well. I guess I have a fear of the unknown. I hope I love it too. Thanks!!!

Hey,

I can't speak for RNPATL, but if you need any help just pm me.

Helen ... you are a few classes behind me, so we have probably not been in class together. However, I have taken 1/2 the year off because I moved from Florida to North Carolina and wanted to get settled before I started back to classes. If I don't get back to class soon, you will catch up with me and perhaps we will be in some classes together. I am scheduled to return in August.

I totally understand about the LT issues. Fortunately, I have only had one incident after taking 5 classes. That is a pretty decent ratio. My instructor knew what was going on and actually passed me on the paper and failed my other 2 team mates ... they were not happy with me, but in the end, they finally got their act together for the last 2 papers. It can be a pain to work with LT, but when you have a good team, it is wonderful.

Good luck with your UoP career and hopefully we will be in a class or two together. I am also going for my MSN. Patrick

Patrick,

Maybe we will be in some of the same classes. Right now I am in Theory :o and writing care plans :crying2: I realize they are important, but I still don't like them. Later Back to care plans :p

I've read the positive posts here about UoP, and that's reassuring. I had a cousin who got her MS online, and she loved the program. I have one question no one has answered, though -- do employers take a University of Phoenix degree seriously?

Does anyone know whether people with the power to hire will regard UoP sheepskin as the equivalent of paperwork from a mail-order diploma mill? I've written to the Human Resources department at my hospital and the state nurses's union, but no one has responded.

It's not cheap -- more than $20,000 and two years' work. There's a top-notch university nursing school literally on the other side of the hill I live on in San Francisco, which is Option 2.

I've got a lot of time on my hands because I had a bicycle accident while riding to work earlier this month and broke my left hip. While I'm on non-weightbearing status for the next two months, I might as well start working on something to improve my life...
