  1. I agree with you about feeling like an oddball. I guess I could probably deal better with all the craziness in triage if I didn't have to put up with my mean coworkers. There is so much politics in the ER I work in that it is ridiculous. I can't believe how some of my coworkers are still able to work here. You know that saying that nurses eat their young.....well it's true in the ER I work. I am 38 years old and I am the youngest nurse in the ER.
  2. Did anyone ever think that she didn't want to eat when she could eat? She was bulimic and was told to stop because she would be in the condition she ended up being in. So why was a feeding tube inserted if after she was determined to be brain dead??
  3. Stay clear of that sign on bonus trap! If they really wanted a nurse to work for them then they would find ways to retain the nurses they have. Once word got out about how happy the nurses are then more nurses would come in and there would be a waiting list to work there. How about giving the nurses a bonus for staying and stop trapping new hires!! Look at how nurses are scheduled and the fairness of the policies towards the nurses. Be aware of those cliques at the job.....
  4. Congrats to you Emilysmom!!!!!! I just now saw your post!! I am sorry it is so late. Now you can move on with your life!!!!!

$2.00/hour where I work at and it is only for those couple of nurses that have been selected and trained. When the charge nurse is out and someone else does charge...they get nothing!! NADA!!!
  6. It helps in the ER!!

We use Toradol IV 30mg like it was going out of style......in the ER!!! If you come into the ER with a kidney stone......we give it quickly.
  8. Speaking of strep throat........how come nurses are not educating their patients to toss the toothbrush? I thought the nurse was to educate their patient. I have had a lady to come to the ER 5+ times for strep throat and when I was discharging her, I advised her to toss the toothbrush and go to the dollar store and buy the pack that has a few in a box for a dollar. I told her that after she used one toothbrush that day that she needed to toss it in the trash and the next day use a new one. Then after a few days she can get a more suitable toothbrush that she would like. She told me that no one has ever told her that. Well, I haven't seen her and it has been several weeks. Maybe I am a bit extreme with using a different toothbrush for a few days but strep throat is not a comfortable feeling and there are risks involved. I am a new ER nurse and I have found out that no one in my ER educates about tossing the toothbrush. So far, my advise has been very successful. No one that has followed my advised has had to return for reoccurring strep throat.
  9. Colorado is a wonderful place. I have lived there 3 times in my life. Go AIR FORCE ACADEMY!!! ( To those in Japan.....I used to live in Kadena Air Base....Okinawa!!) I don't know much about the hospital in Colorado Springs but I do know to stay away from contracts!! Some people get the terrible schedules and terrible treatment when they have a contract with a hospital. It is best to go and leave on your own terms. Work overtime and get the money together for relocation so that way you don't have anyone telling you what you can and cannot do.
  10. I am proud to say that I am now currently enrolled at University of Phoenix pursuing my Bachelor's. I was not too impressed with the school I got my ADN from. I am finally learning something!!
  11. Am I missing something Nekhismom.....VA?? It says: 2004 Biennial Convention, June 26-29 in Minneapolis, MN.
  12. I agree with you Kiyasmom. Hard times can hit anyone! Choices!! It's hard when you have to decide on kotex or a bag of beans.
  13. I just hope that people will realize that the average family in America is about 2-3 paychecks away from being homeless. How many checks, if you lost your job, will it take for you to qualify for Medicaid. For most, 1 month. I believe there is a lot of abuse and I believe that it stems from the top. Our laws and rules are made with so many loopholes in it that some have figured out a way to abuse our system. It is tough being poor and it is very tough for a person to be making a lot of money and suddenly lose their job. I work in the ER and I see a lot of things that I could question. If the Medicaid rules say that you cannot be married to get assistance, then that couple is not going to get married so that there could be medical coverage for that baby. This will allow the woman to get prenatal services which we all know is important. Do you think this woman would still get prenatal services if she didn't have medicaid? Probably not and you know how dangerous that can be. Think about it....a woman giving birth to a baby with no medical history or interventions. Bad situation. Just think again, how many paychecks are you from the POOR HOUSE?
  14. I am going to print this and hand it to my ER docs here and see what they think!!
  15. Congrats!!!! WHEW.......now you can relax!!
