University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

They accepted 16 students for Glendale and have 23 alternates. I don't understand why they accepted such a low number. Has anyone on here gotten accepted?

Specializes in n/a.

I am an alternate for Summer too...:( I received the same email. I am definitely applying for Fall. I knew i wasn't going to be the best applicant since I am still finishing classes but it was worth a shot. hopefully i get in to fall...

Hi everyone,

I cant believe they accepted only 24 students...what happened to the 70 students class. ...it is so dissapointing

I did not apply, but I would love to find out what the GPA cut off was if anyone can tell us please....

Or if anyone does not mind (alternate students) what your GPA is? Thank you all

Also for those who are in the program...can you please tell me how many hours a day (what time) did you have to go in for labs? Thank you, I know things could change but I want to get an idea for future day care plans!!!

thank you all

Hi Laura,

I'm a first semester and I have labs Mon. & Wed 8-10. When there's an exam it's usually scheduled before or after my labs, so the latest I'm at school is 'til 12. I have pre-clinical Thursday afternoons from 4-6PM and clinical Fridays 6:00-2:00P. You'll know your groups and clinical times after about the first week of school. However, we had a last minute change to our clinical from 3-11P to 6-2P. I think we found that out 2 days prior to clinical so some people in my group had to scramble for childcare.

I hope that info helps.

Hi all,

I am also a 1st semester student heading into finals...I think the reason for them cutting down on summer new admit numbers is that they are changing to a new location in SD and the summer is only ten weeks long, so you have to do 15 weeks worth of work in 2/3 the time. Keep in mind, this includes like 80 hours of clinicals which usually start a few weeks into the program for first semester. Starting in summer would not be fun. Also, there is a learning curve for the nursing program; it is not like regular undergrad college. You will need time to acclimate to a new system, and a rushed 10 week summer is not the best time to do that, so those of you who will be trying for the Fall, you are actually in better shape. Also, if you are applying for scholarships, most deadlines are based on a Fall admission date and this will help for any private scholarship applicants. Hope this helps.

I feel sorry for you and your cohort...2nd semester during the summer...ouch! But it will be worth it. I am 3.5 months from graduation and believe me, its worth the hard work! ;)

I am finishing up second semester. I heard they are not accepting as many students because the program has been growing too rapidly, and the new location may or may not be able to handle all of the students. I also heard that they are not accepting as many students because there has been quite a few students who have not been passing classes and are getting held back to the cohort behind them.

This program is intense, if you are not 110% motivated you will not survive. 3 people I know of in my cohort dropped out within the past two weeks....we started last August.....

Just trying to motivate all of you new people - it will be worth it in the end, but you have to work your butt off!!! I've never worked so hard in my entire life ~ yet again, I've never wanted something this bad before.

Good Luck!

have they changed the format for pharm that you know of? how many students would you are not going to pass your semester? i am terrified of having my second semester in the summer, but so be it. i don't really have a choice in the matter! it concerns me that you are losing students to a regular length semster too......

I wanted to address the alternate system. I am finishing up my second semester. I was not an alternate but I recently found out that one of my good friends originally was. This was a surprise to me because this person is one of the smartest in our class (they tutor other students) and had a perfect GPA??? So, go figure. Point is, just because you are an alternate does not mean that someone else was smarter.

It's really hard to tell what the true criteria are but the above posting was right, you need to have 110% commitment. This is a super difficult program and it takes over your life. I wake up and study every day. No joke! There are a few people with children who are making it work but I know that it is hard for them. One of my good friends just left the program to be with her child.

Just give it some good thought. I don't mean to be a downer but it's just the reality of this program.

L&DNMe - I'm not sure if they have changed the Pharm format, and I'm also not sure how many aren't going to pass. There's no way of really knowing until after finals. The pharm final (and all the finals) for that matter are going to be the determing factor for a lot of students. Its easy to bomb a final then have it bring your grade down to below passing because it's worth so much of the grade.

Just start strong from the beginning - do well on the first exams so you don't have to play catch up!

I am finishing up my second semester too, I don't know if they changed the format or not, but I heard they did, at least compared to last semester student's perspectives. Supposedly they re-worked all the exams, but I didn't hear it directly.

I know there are quite a few people who are in danger of not passing pharm this semester. I don't know the number, but I personally know of 5. And I've heard from other people about their fellow clinical group members. So it is difficult even during this regular semester. BUT you guys will be taking it with one less class than we are, at least that is my impression/understanding of it. So maybe it won't be so terrible.

And to address the kids situation - I am one of them who does have a child, and I am making it, so it can be done. You just need a great support system and a really understanding spouse or significant other. :) I literally study every day and every night. I might be getting that "A" I wanted, but I'm far from failing and am in no danger of it, so I think its not too bad. :)

Which class did you hear that we won't be taking? I was under the impression that we had pharm, clinical, acute and chronic, and family focus. I guess it wouldn't surprise me if they changed something though....

I am not aware of only three classes - that would be awesome! I have two kids, so if you can do it with one ( 1= 10 in my book!!) than it is probably doable. 3 classes would be better, but i am not sure that is the case.

Good for you hanging in there. This is a CRAZY program, and if I had known it would be like this, I might not have signed up for it. I will see my children next march!

Thank for your input, as usual.. GOod luck finishing the semster. Wish I was on the other side of second semester......
