University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm an alternate for Glendale, too. I spoke with Suzanne today and they only admitted 16 students to Glendale for Summer 09!! Don't quote me on this exact number, but I'm pretty sure she said there are 22 alternates for Glendale. I don't know if she was talking about San Diego or Glendale, but she also said they reduced the numbers because they were relocating and something about the program growing too fast. Maybe a shortage of instructors/staff? Maybe not enough clinical sites? I'm not quite sure. Alternates should know a little more in about ten days (admitted students are suppose to accept or decline the offer in that time period). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!!

that's weird.. i thought they were accepting 48 for the summer. did you finish all your pre-reqs already?

I just got the bad news. I am an alternate for Glendale. Has anyone been accepted the following semester after not being accepted the first time? I still have 2 clep exams to take and maybe this is why I did not make the cut. They encouraged me to apply though they knew I still had two cled exams left.

Any idea what the cutoff GPA was for SD program?

I guess they decided to take fewer students than originally planned for at both the SD branch and the Glendale branch. I've finished all of my pre-req classes but my degree isn't posted yet. I'm in the middle of my last semester at Texas A&M Univ (I graduate on May 15th). Fortunately, other than Human Growth and Development (which I CLEP tested out of), all of the pre-reqs are required courses for my first degree (BS in Nutritional Sciences). This waiting game is torture!

For those of you that don't get in until Fall, it might be a blessing in disguise because at least you'll have only 1 summer semester. If you start in the summer, you'll have have 2 summers & it's already pretty intense during the regular semester!

Specializes in NICU.

Good luck to you too! I'm not counting on this summer...I figure if I do get a spot it will just be a pleasant surprise :). I did get an email today that is practically identical to the one you quoted above...I hope she really means what she said about being good candidates for the fall.

I need to clep Human Growth and Development , was that hard? I am using petersen's online study exams. I think I need a 50 score, does that mean 50 out of 90?:uhoh3:

Human Growth and Development was the most difficult CLEP test I've taken (I've also clepped out of American Govt and Intro Psyc), but definitely was not impossible. It may have been more difficult because it was the first CLEP test I ever took and I wasn't as familiar with the format and procedures. However almost all of the CLEP tests will only earn a student credit for 100 or 200 level classes ("the basics" freshmen and sophomores take) at my school, but that particular test is the only one that will grant credit for a 300 level, upperclassmen course if passed. If you've had some previous exposure to psychology, physiology and sociology much of the material will be similar and repeated. I only studied for a solid weekend and passed with many points to spare. I used REA's study guide and found it to be very helpful; it contains an overview of important material and three full exams with detailed explanations for the answers. As for the grading scale, I think the highest score is an 80... I always thought 50-59 was equivalent to a C, 60-69 was like a B, and 70-80 was similar to an A. CLEP uses some tricky equation to compute your score (it's not just based on how many you answered correctly). I believe there is the potential for a curve depending on which Human Growth and Development test you take; the harder versions get a few extra points added to the score. I would ask your testing location or call CLEP to confirm all of this though.

Hi everyone,

I cant believe they accepted only 24 students...what happened to the 70 students class. ...it is so dissapointing

I did not apply, but I would love to find out what the GPA cut off was if anyone can tell us please....

Or if anyone does not mind (alternate students) what your GPA is? Thank you all

Also for those who are in the program...can you please tell me how many hours a day (what time) did you have to go in for labs? Thank you, I know things could change but I want to get an idea for future day care plans!!!

thank you all

Thanks. I'm not really counting on getting in this summer either, like you said, if I do get it, it will just be a pleasant surprise :). I wonder how many of us received the same e-mail, haha. I really do hope she meant it though, as there were probably a lot of very qualified applicants. I think in the past (on this thread), people that were wait listed, ended up being admitted the next semester...at least I hope so anyway.

Just in case, I think I may try to apply for CSU San Marcos for this Fall as well, I may be missing one or two of their pre-reqs though, and would have to take the TEAS. I believe their application deadline for the Fall is the same as the University of Oklahoma.

Laura,

I don't know what their cut off was, but you needed a min 2.5gpa. I think I had a 3.3 or so, with A's in all of my pre-reqs except for Chemistry, and a very low undergrad gpa of 3.1.

Amanda thank you for sharing....thats a great GPA...I cant believe you are an alteranate....good luck to you

Laura
