University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

I hope you don't mind me asking , but what type of loans did you get? I applied for summer 09 Glendale and they have been very tight mouthed about financial aid. I had to rush my application through to make the March 1st deadline and I don't even know if I will have enough financial aid to cover tuition. By the way , men are also applying to the program.

All financial aid goes through Oklahoma. Have you found out if you are accepted yet? They give acceptance first and then do financial aid. Did you apply for FAFSA? All I had to do last summer was put in that and then they sent an award letter. They also sent instructions of how to apply for private loans. Most of my classmates and I got MedCap loans from Wells Fargo.

Its great to see men getting into nursing. One of my closest friends in the program is a guy. :)

Have any of the Summer 2009 applicants for the Glendale branch received an acceptance/rejection letter yet? Or a mysterious email about attending open house? I am chomping at the bit!!! I'm finishing up my BS from Texas A&M University and would love to know which state I'll be living in when I graduate in a month! Does anyone know how many people applied for Sum '09 in Glendale and how many spots are available? I heard that completed applicants are looked at first, but I don't know if that includes me (I've finished all of my prereqs but still need to graduate).

I was thinking about trying to go through some of the new student procedures (i.e. obtaining whatever type of username or student ID# OU uses, setting up an OU email account, logging into the OU class and grade management site, etc) to see if it would let me in. Perhaps if the system let me in, I've been accepted... I would appreciate any info previous or current students can give me about the aforementioned websites, determining student ID#s, generic/start up password for a new student's ID (ex. birthdate, first 2 letters of name + last 4 digits of SSN, etc). At Texas A&M, we have a UIN (universal identification number) and a NetID; once you have one or both of these, you have access to the Texas A&M systems. This whole theory is based on the idea that OU has something similar, but if that's not the case, please disregard this paragraph. I just want to know what the OU's decision about me is!!!

Geraldo ~ I took the federal stafford loans and then a private loan through Wells Fargo MedCap.

LaLaws ~ sorry but my username/password were totally random and there is not a way to determine what yours would be. Good luck and have patience waiting!

Thanks , I thought there were also scholarships and nursing loans available. They made it seem like it would be no problem, I do not have much left for stafford loans and I will not quallify for the Medcap. I have a bachelors and a masters and used up most of my undergraduate eligibility for stafford (only have $16,000 left. I also think you can only get about 10,500 per year as an undergraduate.is that right? I have not been accepted yet, but I think I have a good chance. There were only 3 people at the oreientation and I was the only one applying for summer 2009.

jenn13755, thank you for the insight! You just saved me a lot of time and the frustration of trying to determine what my student ID and password would be if I were accepted.

If anyone knows anything about being accepted or rejected to Glendale for the Summer semester, I would love to hear about it! The last I heard was that they were sending letters out at the end of this week...

Update:

I just received my letter in the mail yesterday, I'm an alternate. I called and left a message, as well as e-mailed to find out more information. She is the contact for the Glendale and San Diego admissions, if you need her contact info, let me know. Crossing my fingers that I'm able to get in!

And thank you all again for your information and help!

Edit: I just got an e-mail, looks like they did not accept very many people at all for the Summer 2009 class.

Suzanne:

For the San Diego summer 2009 class, we admitted 24 students. Therefore, it was very competitive for admission. I am not permitted to say where you fall on the alternate list, however, I can tell you that we are unlikely to pull very many names from that list. You are a strong applicant with a good gpa and I would strongly encourage you to reapply for the fall 2009 term. We plan to admit 56 at that time and I think you would be in good standing.

.....

Now that is just plain depressing, I was told earlier that they were going to admit 75-80 for the Summer 2009 class :( .

My friend has a masters as well and she was able to get loans. she got private loans as well as some stafford, etc.

I am an alternate for the San Diego program as well. I can't believe they only admitted 24! I wonder if they are having trouble finding enough instructors or something. I wish they wouldn't have encouraged those of us who did not have all of their prerequisites done to apply for Summer. Does anyone know if you have to resubmit transcripts if you apply for a second time?

KT17, that makes sense. I never thought about them possibly having problems finding enough instructors, but maybe that is the case. Either way, its still my number one choice, and I will definitely be re-applying for the Fall. I'm not sure if you need to resubmit transcripts, I hope not, but I'll probably call later this week to find out.

Anyway, Good Luck, I hope you still get in this summer. I hope I do too, but seems like its not a very likely possibility.

I doubt its due to lack of instructors, there are plenty of them. Perhaps it has to do with clinical placements. I don't know why they cut down on applicants, I haven't heard anything. I was shocked they only admitted 24 as well. Good luck alternates. I know someone who was an alternate and was admitted a week before we started because someone backed out. Don't give up! :D

Did everyone get their letters yet? I'm an alternate for Glendale. Does anyone know how many were accepted to Glendale?
