  1. Yay!!! Many congrats to you :) I assume you got L&D? Which hospital?
  2. I interviewed earlier today at JFK for the ICU. My first interview after a 2 month job search. I have my fingers crossed and good luck to everyone else who interviewed today.
  3. I wouldn't worry too much on the stethoscope. I'm fourth semester and I had a cheap steth. Differentiating heart sounds takes years of practice. I was happy to hear murmurs! Basically when your nurse tells you that your patient has an abnormal heart sound, take a good listen. The babies are really interesting so look forward to that. Good luck to you all :)
  4. Hi Boogeysmom, I wanted to congratulate you on getting a job As a fellow OU student from SD, I am so happy for you. I have been reading your posts since the start of the OU thread. I am near the end of my third semester (last final on Wed) and I feel that I am at that scary transition phase now. How can I send you a message? I know I can't PM yet I just want advice as to where to go from here from another OU student. Good luck studying for NCLEX and have a wonderful holidays. :) M
  5. Wow, I definitely know how you guys feel. It was a year ago that my life changed and still can't believe that I'm in nursing school As others have posted, the program is tough and can be a downright pain in the :angryfire. But it was all worth it. Good luck everyone and I hope you enjoy the journey.
  6. I just want to say, "Good Luck" to anyone applying for Spring '10. I know what you are going through as I did this journey a year ago. I am now in my third semester and I feel very grateful that I am in this position. There are going to be some bumps along the way but you will make some great friends to share all your joys and pain. The program is not a cake walk but you will learn so much. I am completely amazed as to what I have learned and what can do now. As you go through your journey in this program, just remember to take a step back and look at the big picture. Where you were, where you are and where you are going to be. This will help with the stress and like I said the friends you make will be invaluable. Good luck all!
  7. Laura, Go to tab #38 on this thread. There is info re: health insurance posted from people in my cohort before the semester started. In regards to immunizations, you may want to call family practice doctors. That's how I found mine and he does all the immunizations as well as Hep B. I was told that the immunizations are not covered by insurance because those are childhood vaccines/child wellness. Only the flu shot was covered so I had to pay out of pocket anyways.
  8. I wish I knew about the immunizations and CPR. I know I've seen the immunization list earlier on this thread as far as what you need. OU requires that you are CPR certified through the AHA. Even though the certification is good for 2 years, OU requires annual renewals. I had to do everything within 5 weeks and that cuts it close with some immunizations. Good luck to you, Laura. I know that this has been a long journey for you. :)
  9. Hi Laura, I'm a first semester and I have labs Mon. & Wed 8-10. When there's an exam it's usually scheduled before or after my labs, so the latest I'm at school is 'til 12. I have pre-clinical Thursday afternoons from 4-6PM and clinical Fridays 6:00-2:00P. You'll know your groups and clinical times after about the first week of school. However, we had a last minute change to our clinical from 3-11P to 6-2P. I think we found that out 2 days prior to clinical so some people in my group had to scramble for childcare. I hope that info helps.
