Hi All,
I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?
I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if the student insurance that is offered by OU is better than a Blue Cross would be? Has anyone else done the comparision? Is it a PPO?
I was just looking at both. I currently have Blue Shield Spectrum PPO Savings Plan 4000/8000 for emergencies but I never use it b/c of the high deductible. It's only $56/month, but I don't know if it will meet their standards so I just emailed Phyllis Hauptfeld to ask. I'm looking into the $104/month Blue Shield Active Start PPO Plan 25 Generic Rx, which I think would work out to a couple hundred more per year, more or less depending on what you end up owing in copays. My concern with the Macori student plan is that it looks like it doesn't cover a lot of basic services because students are expected to get those on campus at the "Family Health Center" -- in Oklahoma! I don't know if there is an alternative for us, so I asked Phyllis about that as well. I'll let you know what I find out. Does anyone else know more?
I just purchased the Macori needlestick coverage. I chose the OKC campus because I didn't know what to choose -- can anyone tell me if that was right?
I picked the OKC campus when I bought it too! Hope that is ok.
As far as basic health insurance goes, I chose to go through Aetna rather than OU's Macori insurance. I didn't like the idea that it seemed to be based on students living in Oklahoma. The plan I chose is $149/month, but has no deductible and a $30 copay for doctors visits. I wanted to get kind of decent insurace so I can count on the fixed monthly cost more than worrying about what it would add up to if I were to get sick. I also looked at some Blue Cross plans, which I think would also be good. When I was at the open house as an alternate for the fall cohort, one of the women from OU (I can't remember her name!) said that if she were choosing insurance for her kids she wouldn't pick the insurance that OU offers since it is kind of "bottom of the barrel." That being said, if you are a very healthy person it could be more than enough for you! I don't think I helped much, but that is my !
Hey everyone,
I'm considering doing this program @ Glendale. I'm currently a student somewhere else, but that's another story...
How do you guys like it? Do you take tests online? How many hours and days per week are you at clinical? And do they accept you if you have courses in progress? I'd have to take Gen Chem and Gen Bio next semester.
Thanks.
my boyfriend found this article for us to compare health insurance rates...
healthinsurance.com and ehealthinsurance.com give you detailed estimates of multiple health-insurance plans in your state and what's covered under them. you can apply online -- without having to fork over any medical records -- and in some cases hear back from providers in minutes. healthinsurance.com also gives estimates for travel insurance and dental coverage. and ehealthinsurance has information on [color=#000]health savings accounts (hsas) and options for small-business owners. the ehealthinsurance portal for student health insurance is also good for the budget-conscious undergrad or graduate student not covered under a parental policy. discount cards are offered through the site.

in terms of health pans - i have a great one through the farm bureau. ( i am not a farmer... but if you join their membership then you have access to their group health insurance plan). the plan is under health net ppo and has a 1750 deductible, and then 0$ after that. it covers maternity, for those who may need it, and the 1750 includes prescriptions.... anyway, just a thought.....
Has anyone who bought the book package at the open house been charged for it yet? I hope they didn't lose my check!
Mine has not been cashed yet either. :) Is anyone bringing something to carry the books to orientation? I think there are a ton and most likely to heavy to carry in one trip. I'm thinking a rolling suitcase?
Alina told me that we weren't going to be receiving the books at orientation. She said that they will let us know when they arrive at the office and we'll pick them up from there. I asked if she had an idea of when it would be, but she didn't know. So no need to worry about how to get them home yet!
