Hi All,
I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?
I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The OU program was established by Orbis Education and they were trying to find another university to pick up the online accelerated program. They tried to coordinate with SDSU, but the program didn't get approved by the CSU Chancellor. So, Orbis found another school to partner with, University of Southern Nevada. Their first cohort began last October 2010 and is almost the same as the OU program. It's a 14mo program. The prereq's are almost the same, but OChem is not required. So, if you took the prereqs for the OU program, then you should be able to apply to the USN program. I believe they are accepting candidates for the April cohort, but I'm not sure. The program is very impacted, so I hope you will have someone to help with your children. I would advise to either leave them with someone you trust in SD or make sure you have someone help you while you move them up to Vegas with you. I can guarantee you won't have any time to spend with them except for a few times on the weekend or sporadically throughout the week. That is jus my 2 cents tho. Good luck!
I have no idea how to post on here...new to this site. I am so frustrated....I had 3 prereq's left for the OU accelerated BSN program and I find out they closed up shop. I have been looking online at the other programs (Azusa, National, CSU San Marcos) and the problem with those schools is (not only some take longer than OU's 14 month program, but they have extra prerequisites!!! I just completed Nutrition and Ca History for OU (even though I already HAVE a bachelors in Psychology) and now those 2 I took are not required at other schools and now I have to take "Organic Chem" and other extra classes. I will be in a rocking chair before I graduate!!! Am I missing something??? I heard that OU has the program still running in Las Vegas and since I live in San Diego I'm thinking about actually relocating for 14 months just to get it over with!! This would be very hard as I have to school age children. Can ANYONE offer any suggestions?????? Thanks
Wow, you have a Bachelors in Psychology and you had to take other courses. If the program is accredited through SDSU then being that you already hold a Bachelors degree no public institution operating in CA can EVER make you take classes unless they are direct prerequisites into a nursing program. If they are just for general education then degree holders are exempt from that requirement. I feel your pain as I've a bachelors degree, an LVN license and tons of classes and am missing Biochemistry for WGU, even though my chemistry course was heavy in biochemistry, the school still wants me to take the course. ISU wants me to take 5 extra courses along with challenging classes that I've already taken in my LVN program. Give me a ******* break, that is just too much. I'm already half way into the rocking chair and very frustrated too. I've been waiting for a LVN-RN program to accept me for 2 years now.
Since you're in San Diego did you ever think of giving Kaplan a shot? They have reasonable tuition, and they're recognized in CA. Good Luck
I've finally been able to access this site. I also applied to the 2011 ABSN program at the University of Oklahoma. I talked with the registration lady today and she said that the letters were going out tomorrow (Feb. 22). Has anyone heard anything new? I see that someone posted they were going out last week?
Congrats HS1705! I'm in Florida so hopefully I'll receive my letter from OU today. I'm pretty sure I'll get waitlisted because I'm still completing two of the pre-requisites (Chemistry and Stats). My first bachelor's was in English and at the time my young mind did not understand the consequences of not studying. :-) However, I did well in the pre-requisites and that totaled almost 60 hours. I've heard that's what they use to determine entrance--so, we'll see!

I just finished OU's San Diego program and I haven't heard anything about a cohort in LV. I just googled it and it looks like they have a campus in LV on an air force base and they only offer certain master's degrees (none of them in nursing). It sucks that all the programs have different prerequisites and I totally understand your frustration, but I'm not sure I'd be in such a hurry to get done with school...the job market is awful right now! I would just keep plugging away at your prereqs and hopefully you'll get in soon. Good luck!
