University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All of the pre-reqs and other courses you took for your first degree stay on the transcript(s) of the institution(s) you took them at; these courses are not transferred to the OU transcript because you did not take them at OU. I don't know if the BRN needs to see the transcripts from your first degree; if so, you can have them sent to the BRN after you finish in Oct. Don't worry about sending in transcripts or filling out any forms yet; as a second semester student, you have a long time before you need to do any of those things.

You won't graduate from OU until December because the semester doesn't officially end until December. I've never heard of a university that will allow its students to graduate in the middle of a semester (even if they're already finished with their classes), so I'm not surprised or upset by this at all. The entire university can't be expected to base their academic calendar around one cohort. Even if your cohort is finished by October, there will be three other cohorts who won't be finished with their semester until December. The fall semester is the fall semester; it begins in late August and ends in early December. You can't have one cohort officially finish a semester a month and a half before everyone else; everyone has to officially begin and end the fall semester together.

LaLaws is right. Don't worry about it right now. You have plenty of time. Plus, someone on staff will help your cohort fill out all of the documents and tell you EXACTLY what needs to be turned in to the BRN.

wendy99 as for what needs to be submitted to the BRN, they need to see anything that contributed to the BSN you will receive. This includes ALL prerequisites. So if you have classes from your previous university that helped fill a prereq for Nursing, then that will be needed, as well as any and every school after that you may have attended for nursing prereqs. OU sends your transcripts from OU. Other schools that you took classes at need to be requested by each individual and sent directly to the BRN by the school itself. HTH

Hi !

I have been following this thread for a few days now. I had so many questions that were answered :)

I am an international student, with a B.A from my home country but I went to grad school here in St.Louis . I know that OU would accept International students. Is SDSU doing the same for the ABSN program ? I read in one of the posts here that they won't accept foreign BA/BS.

But I already have a M.A from St.Louis and I am getting my pre-reqs here in Riverside, CA. Should be okay, right ? I really want to get in San Diego ABSN nursing program. I would be applying for Sprng 2011.

Also, SDSU had a notification on their website that they would be only accepting students for Fall every year, starting this year. Is that for ABSN as well, or just the traditional BSN program ?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated :)

Oh boy, I guess they don't. I just found out. Hmmm.

I'm sorry mods, if what I'm about to ask is not allowed then please edit my post, thank you.

For OU current and grad students, has anyone taken or is currently taking clinical with prof. (moderator edit of name)?! I'm asking for a friend of mine who's coming across this professor as one of the more difficult teachers on campus. If you had 'survived' this prof, would you mind to share some thoughts/strategies on how you made it out? From what I heard, he's a little intimidating to be approached to, if not condescending. Any advices would be helpful and if they're too private to share, please PM me about the info. My friend has to write a 29 pages write up by tomorrow about a patient care plan and he's struggling with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much!! :)

Hi all,

Is there anyone doing the accelerated program for San Diego and does not live in or near San Diego ? How often to you travel to San Diego for clinicals, Weekends ?

Hello. I read that you're from Lawton, OK. How is the town there? Rural, suburb? Are there activities to do? Are there malls nearby? How is the Comanche County Memorial Hospital? After finishing school, would you stay in Lawton? I am from South Carolina. Thought about moving out there? Thanks for any input.

I'm sorry, I know that this message is very old, but I am new to this site and was wondering if you ever entered the University of Oklahoma Nursing program at the Lawton Campus? I am in the process of applying there, and was wondering if you could shed any light on the quality of the program, as well as the environment(living in Lawton). Any info would be greatly appreciated:-)!

Hi !

I am not sure about Lawton . I know that their program that was to start in San Diego with SDSU in July 2010 was denied accredition. Reasons...I am not sure. Same goes for the Glendale campus. You probably want to make sure if they program is still around . I think they closed down in SD due to lack of funds.

Actually OU in CA was fully accredited and has graduated several cohorts. However, in late 2009 OU made the decision for financial reasons to leave CA. The last cohort started in SD and Glendale in January 2010. They will finish up in Spring 2011. SDSU was trying to develop an ABSN program after OU left. SDSU's program was given accreditation and approval by the CA BRN and scheduled to begin Sumer 2010. However the CSU Chancellor denied the program for unknown reasons (finances?).

This thread was primarly for the OU program in CA. I think there is another thread specific to the OU programs in OK on the Oklahoma region of this forum. You might try posting your question there.

To Persistance, Not sure who you were talking to, but I lived in Lawton for about a year and in Columbia, SC for about a year, I def am not a fan of Columbia. In my opinion, Lawton is a good place to raise a family, not a whole lot to do there, at least in the winter time..there is a lake there, and a pretty cool town close by called Medicine Park, that is pretty neat. Since I'm single and older 31, I wouldn't recommend it as a place to be..it just depends on what type of things you like to do. Yes, there is a mall there, and no I definitely would not stay in Lawton, unless I had kids to raise there.

To Quidra-Please see above and just one tip I have is when you apply to programs, apply for more than one. I applied to University of Oklahoma Nursing program at the Lawton Campus and didn't get in the first year and hadn't applied to any other schools. I also applied again a year later and did not get in, but got my second choice which is Midwestern State University, which is in Wichita Falls, TX, which turned out to be the better choice for me-their program is 2 and a half years and even then, the nursing courses and clinicals are very overwhelming, there is no way I could have handled an accelerated program....but to each their own...

I have no idea how to post on here...new to this site. I am so frustrated....I had 3 prereq's left for the OU accelerated BSN program and I find out they closed up shop. I have been looking online at the other programs (Azusa, National, CSU San Marcos) and the problem with those schools is (not only some take longer than OU's 14 month program, but they have extra prerequisites!!! I just completed Nutrition and Ca History for OU (even though I already HAVE a bachelors in Psychology) and now those 2 I took are not required at other schools and now I have to take "Organic Chem" and other extra classes. I will be in a rocking chair before I graduate!!! Am I missing something??? I heard that OU has the program still running in Las Vegas and since I live in San Diego I'm thinking about actually relocating for 14 months just to get it over with!! This would be very hard as I have to school age children. Can ANYONE offer any suggestions?????? Thanks
