University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if I remember correctly they way they said it...I believe it was bussiness casual :)

Thanks for the info! It turned out that primarily only the people who read this blog saw that and dressed in the right manner lol.

For those who attended the informational session of the SDSU ABSN program, may I please have an update on their prerequisite list? I checked their website but couldn't find any available info regarding this matter. Thank you so much!!!

If any recent grads are watching the forum, does anyone have an extra sleeve patch? I bought new scrubs top for this semester and need a patch. BTW for those of you with stethescope questions, any type will work. You will mostly be listening to lung sounds, bowel sounds, and heart sounds.

Hi Marionette,

For what it's worth, I also received a different model of stethoscope that is one-sided for Christmas. As far as I can tell from the instructions, you can use it to hear both higher and lower frequencies depending on how firmly you press on the chestpiece. I am not sure what this means yet, but I think it will give us the same functions as a two-sided stethoscope. At least I hope!

I wouldn't worry too much on the stethoscope. I'm fourth semester and I had a cheap steth. Differentiating heart sounds takes years of practice. I was happy to hear murmurs! Basically when your nurse tells you that your patient has an abnormal heart sound, take a good listen. The babies are really interesting so look forward to that. Good luck to you all :)

Have you tried calling Ace? I believe they sell the patches for $2 or so. I just bought an extra set of scrubs there last night and they already had patches on them. However, I remember at open house some of the scrubs did not have patches and they just advised students to go over there and buy some.

Do you still need sleeve patch? I have one from the lab coat we bought but never used. If you can PM me go ahead. If not we can make other arrangements. Let me know.

here's what i found out about the new sdsu absn program

here's more information http://nursing.sdsu.edu/miscfiles/ac...ted-120709.pdf although they are calling it an online program in the letter, when i called to schedule an appointment they mentioned that they have 2 locations. one is in san diego and the other in glendale. i'm going on 2/3/10 at 12pm for the info session in glendale.

i asked about the o-chem requirement and was told that there is an online course that they are allowing in place of it that advisors can recommend since o-chem is so impacted in many schools.

Will do. Stay tuned. I think I'll start another discussion instead of keeping it in the Oklahoma post. ;)

Hi, for whom graduated from the program about transcript and board exam.

I'm in my second semester now and have heard a lots frustration about waiting for the transcript after graduation. So OU just want us to wait for the transcript to be posted? Post on where? Is there anything they ask you to do? Or they just basically didnt put all your old transcript and prerequisites together with the undergraduate courses you have been taking in OU?

The transcript they post, what did it show? All the academic courses and degree you have earned? Or just nursing prerequisites and undergraduate courses? Does it include the original school?

I just look at my unofficial transcript with school website. It doesnt show anything about the prerequisites record or previous academic history like the one we saw in our original applicant.

I thought all those could be done when we are admitted or soon after. Why they have to wait till we graduate to do so? I dont like the idea that we have to wait after graduation to take the Nclex. Because I want to and need to apply the job immediately.

Please let me know the detail about it, and after the transcript, how long does it take the board to decide the eligibility to sit for the exam? If you earned your first bachelor degree outside the US, do they ask you to send the original transcript again to them?

Wendy,

We'll be finished with all of our courses on October 31, but the actual semester doesn't end until December. This is why we won't receive our diplomas until December. The transcript everyone is talking about is your OU transcript (this has nothing to do with your previous degree or the nursing pre-reqs you had to complete before the program). From October to December, OU has to process our last semester's grades and clear us for graduation. During that time, you should study for the NCLEX and start looking for a job. When you graduate in December, you can finally send your OU transcript to the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) to apply to take the NCLEX exam. You cannot take the NCLEX before you officially graduate (which will be in December when the semester ends).

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I thought the reason it takes so long is because they post all the pre-re and other degree on OU transcript as well. So we have to submit those transcript other than OU separately to the board ouselves?

I looked at the website of board, there's one page about the required content, The breakdown of courses are wierd, Have you filled out the page?

And also why the semester doesnt end till Dec? What else you have to do? I thought the last exam was taken on OCt. 30 or sometime like that.
