Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good thing Santa already knows that all I want for Christmas is a stehoscope, scrubs, shoes, and books! I can already feel the pain of the next 14 months.....but I am looking forward to it!

Speaking of stethoscope gifts from Santa, does anyone know from experience the difference between the Littman Master Classic II and the Classic II SE? I know the Classic II SE is recommended on the list but I just received for xmas a Master Classic that is engraved, and therefore not returnable. Apparently it is the higher quality one, but I am a little intimidated that the master being one-sided is harder to learn from. Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks for the info sungirl22! I went there and got the H1N1 shot today, but do you or anyone else know where I can get a seasonal flu shot and chicken pox shot? Unfortunately, I dont have insurance right now so I need to find a place that is reasonably priced. At the county health centers they are not giving seasonal flu shots or chicken pox shots to adults. Does anyone know where is should go?

I would go back to the public health clinic. I went to the one off of Ruffin Road but that website I posted in my previous post lists others that may be closer to wherever you are at. When I went to get the H1N1 vaccine there, they were offering the seasonal flu shot as well in either a nasal mist or in IM vaccination form. I went there to get my TB skin test, tetorifice shot, H1N1 shot, and an MMR booster because my titer didn't show me as immune to it. They also offer the chicken pox shot so you should be able to get everything you need done there. Each shot costs $10 so it's very reasonably priced too. Did you have the chicken pox as a child? If so (most of us born in the 80s or earlier did) all you need is a chicken pox titer showing you are immune instead of a chicken pox vaccine. You may want to look into that.

Thanks for the reply! I did have chicken pox as a child. Where did you get your titer at and how much did it cost? Also, and this is for anyone else who might need this info, the location on Ruffin is out of the seasonal flu vaccination for adults, but they should have everything else except the chicken pox vaccine for adults, they only have it for kids.

Costs are:

$10 for all immunizations you need

$8 for TB test

And they are all very nice there!

Just an FYI that I had chicken pox as a child and my titer turned up negative. So even if you had chicken pox there is a chance you will still need the varicella vaccine. Good luck tracking down your vaccines!

That is good to know, thanks JBSD!

I got my chicken pox titer at my doctor's office but I got all of my immunizations at the public health clinic off of Ruffin Rd. I am not sure if the public health office does titers or not but you could call and ask them.

JBSD is right. I had the MMR titer done which I think I mentioned and my titer came back negative so I had to go back to the public health clinic to get an MMR booster.

I got my seasonal flu vaccine back in September from Vons in Scripps Ranch. I believe it was $25 or $30. If you can't find the seasonal flu vaccine at a public health clinic you may want to check that out because it still may be less than a doctor's visit.

Hi Marionette,

For what it's worth, I also received a different model of stethoscope that is one-sided for Christmas. As far as I can tell from the instructions, you can use it to hear both higher and lower frequencies depending on how firmly you press on the chestpiece. I am not sure what this means yet, but I think it will give us the same functions as a two-sided stethoscope. At least I hope!

A few of us have been wondering what dress code is for orientation. Someone has already been nice enough to send an email to find out, but we haven't heard yet.

Anyone heard anything? How about those who attended previous terms?

Thanks!

if I remember correctly they way they said it...I believe it was bussiness casual :)

FYI for those who still need seasonal flu vac. Some County of SD health centers are running out of the seasonal flu vaccine. I know the El cajon location currently has it. It's only $10.
