University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone purchasing scrubs at Tuesdays meeting? Does anyone who is already at the program recommend getting them at Open House or should we get them somewhere else?

I was thinking about it. From what I gathered from what other people have written, most of them buy their own shoes and stethoscopes elsewhere since I think those will be available to purchase there as well.

I only bought scrubs at our open house. I suggest buying two sets, that works just fine for the first 3 semesters, but that last one... if you have more than two shifts in a row or don't have time to do laundry in between, it kind of gets hectic to scramble and get clean scrubs in time for your next 12-hr shift. haha. But you can consider that later.

Don't buy a lab coat if they offer it, no use for it. I used it once b/c it was raining and I used it to shield me going from my car to the building for lab. :)

Buy your steth and shoes somewhere else. And you will only need one community polo, don't buy two like they may suggest.

Have fun! Its so exciting to start this whole new adventure! :)

Only 2 more days!

It sounds like we will be dropping lost of $$$ on Tuesday. I have read previous posts to try and determine what we actually need to buy that day. It sounds like the e-book package is the best bet and the scrubs. Everything else seems up-in-the-air and dependent upon who your clinical instructor is. Some are more strict then others....

Has anyone decided if we should meet up there that morning? What's the easiest way to identify one another?

I have never been there so I don't know of a good place to meet up at. The only thing I can think of in terms of identification would be to wear a certain color. They might give us name tags but not sure about that.

what do most of you guys' stats look like that have been accepted...your gpa, clinical experience?

Has anyone been to an info session in SD for the new SDSU program? Any new updates?

For people who are already in the program, did you order the tennis shoes or the clogs? Do they have to be Dansko brand?

I am in the program. I have sketcher tennis shoes, I brought my books, stethos. etc. at amazon, the only thing I brought from the school was the uniforms. Some student, one buy the tops and buy there own scrub pants.

reply to nursevai:

I am in the program, I had a decent GPA, L60 was mid 3's, Science was 4.0, other prereq very high 3's. Clinical experience doesn't mean anything for the program I would say 90% of student have never worked in health care before.

If you didn't get in, it sucks. I am sorry. On the plus side however, the job market isn't very good at the mo, and lots of graduates, in SD and Glendale, are with out jobs and have student loans to pay back. Keep working toward the dream, but don't be discouraged if it takes a while, the graduate nurse market is flooded at the moment.

Thanks mtaylor12. Did you need to buy a medical bag as well to carry around all of your supplies?

No I didn't buy a bag, I did buy a pen light, but from amazon too, for $5. Buy less, you can always get things later if you think you need them. Everything you will use at clinical will be on the floor.

Just got off the phone with Ratcliffe's Medical Books and the total cost with the e-book package is $1059.72 plus shipping. They said shipping averages around $60. That's not as bad as I was expecting. I had heard it was closer to $1500.00.

Good thing Santa already knows that all I want for Christmas is a stehoscope, scrubs, shoes, and books! I can already feel the pain of the next 14 months.....but I am looking forward to it!
