University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

melierinrdh,

i read a previous reply from someone who is currently in the program and s/he mentioned that there is a later orientation (in august?) for those who have been accepted after the first orientations.

If you haven't received a decision, you're still in the running. I've heard there will be later orientations for those accepted after the May sessions. No news is good news IMO.

Never assume anything. No news means you're still being considered.

The orientations have been moved to July. See keep on hoping for the best :-)

did they say why they moved the orientations??

sunny,

michelle says, "To ensure that we accommodate all incoming Second Career students, we have re-scheduled next week's orientation sessions for Tuesday, July 12 and Friday, July 29 from 1pm - 5pm at the School of Nursing."

i assume it's because they're still notifying applicants about decisions and want to make sure enough students can make the orientation

im sorry but the fact that you have to wait over 6 months to hear any type of message from admissions is ridiculous and rude. sure, no news is good news but the fact that my application was marked complete in october and i have let to hear a single ounce of communication is not right. wait list me or tell me a decision is going to be here by a certain date (and send it that decision out on a certain date) don't just ignore the process.

anyway, someone can have my spot if i end up getting in. i start the accelerated program at univ of detroit mercy today. they were very reliable with getting back to me and i am excited to start nursing school. good luck to the rest of you!

Congratulations on being accepted to U of D Mercy. I completely agree with you about the admissions process of UM. My application was marked complete in Nov and the only communications I have heard were initiated by ME! Anyone in the program will comment, "They have hundreds of apps to review." PLEASE keep your comments to yourself. Last year there were 355 apps, the deadline for admissions was Feb 1st. That was 3.5 months ago! If they reviewed 10 apps a day they would have been finished beginning of March. At this rate, they are reviewing 3 apps a day. However, we haven't heard anything yet sooo their rate is slower than that.

I applied to Oakland University's program in the middle of April. I have already received 2 mailings from them and they have a deadline for acceptance notices of Aug 15th. The program starts MAY 2012! If I get accepted to OU, someone can gladly take my spot if accepted to UM. Plus, their program is $10,000 cheaper than UM!

I can't say I'm too mad at U of M - every university goes at its own pace, and I've heard good and bad things about a whole slew of different programs. I was accepted into Univ of Maryland's program 5 days before their deposit deadline, and only 7 weeks before the actual program started. That was a bit last minute; however, Michigan doesn't start for another 5 months. On the flip side, I have an interview with Wayne State this Thursday, and their application deadline isn't until June 1st...go figure that out.

---- emailed me today about transcripts. She said decisions should be released this week. Take that for what its worth, she also said they would be released the last week in april.

yeah, the wait is agonizing, but I cant say that Im mad at U of M either. I'll continue to wait patiently for a response, because this is important to me. At the end of the day, I am in need and want of U of M, they can do without me as they have hundreds of applicants, and so Im fine with them calling the shots because they don't "owe me" anything. Im sorry that some of you are giving up, but hopefully that will mean more available spots for those of us that truly want this. Good luck to all in your future endeavors, and hopefully we'll all get a response from U of M by the end of the week :)

melierinrdh... if you get an acceptance from U of M and UMD, which do you think you'll choose? also was the transcript email dealing with a personal issue or something for all applicants? Im a little nervous, i didnt get one, dont know if thats good or bad...

The email was personal.... but she said the end of the week!
