  1. Hello friends! I'm planning on moving to MD and am looking for advice on good hospitals to work for (ie, support their nurses, good teamwork, a place to grow at, flexible scheduling, with decent benefits). I'm an ED nurse but I'm also in love with pediatrics so I'm open to both departments. I'm focusing my search near the Silver Spring area but I'm very open to other parts of MD also. Thank you ahead of time for your help!
  2. sunny, michelle says, "To ensure that we accommodate all incoming Second Career students, we have re-scheduled next week's orientation sessions for Tuesday, July 12 and Friday, July 29 from 1pm - 5pm at the School of Nursing." i assume it's because they're still notifying applicants about decisions and want to make sure enough students can make the orientation
  3. melierinrdh, i read a previous reply from someone who is currently in the program and s/he mentioned that there is a later orientation (in august?) for those who have been accepted after the first orientations.
  4. try searching for "University of Michigan 2nd Career Accelerated BSN Program Class of 2012"
  5. i received emails from the nursing school first about my acceptance and then received a letter in the mail. i wasn't expecting to hear back so early so i didn't bother checking my status online
  6. alymo, i had a 3.35 undergrad gpa. i applied the yr before and was waitlisted for the whole summer (obviously didn't get in). between the two yrs i applied (difference b/w my waitlist and acceptance), i took a CNA class, became bls cpr certified, volunteered abroad for medical missions, and did a lot of shadowing. i thought my downfall for my first application was my lack of experience/ evident interest in nursing so i aimed to get more involved the following year.
  7. musician's, why do you say clinical locations matter for some semesters and not others? in terms of health care facilities having strong dept's in whatever we're studying?
  8. dave and musician's, thanks for all your input :) i heard most ppl do get their first choices for clinicals so that's great!
  9. livingk, sth= something i signed up for the monday orientation bc it works better w/ my schedule. hope to see you there!
  10. livingk, hello! i'm glad to hear that another student got in! congrats! i've actually decided to go to michigan (vs msu) after much deliberation. i don't know much about wayne's program but i would suggest giong to their information sessions/ talking to counselors and students. i didn't apply to wayne bc their prereqs were a little different than what i've taken already. i'm definitely interested in setting up a fb group or sth for our cohort. i'm in the process of finding housing right now near the nursing sch and i would love to have a roommate or two to split rent with.
  11. upnorth, thanks for your reply! do you know about how the clinicals are? do they start w/ the first wk of classes? where do people have their clinicals? i heard that people usually have to drive out for them and that's rough if it's early in the morning and far way. did your friend feel like she had enough support/ resources to get through the program/ prepare her to become a nurse? ie, if there study groups, if the teachers were helpful, if there were any mentoring programs? i was accepted into the state program and now i'm trying to find out more about it to see if it's where i wanna go. there's an information session for the accelerated program thursday i'm planning on going to...
  12. musician's wife, thanks for your input! it sounds like you have a really solid community there. i'm hoping to learn more about students' perception of the program so i can make a more informed decision. i know everyone has their own opinions and experiences, which is why i'm interested in hearing about them. i know umich's program is highly ranked but that doesn't tell me too much.
  13. @ melierinrdh, don't have enough posts to pm but to answer your question: i received an email from undergrad admissions last thursday telling me i got in. i got my official letter of acceptance in the mail a couple days later. they're prolly just starting to send stuff out- good luck!
  14. hi everyone! i'm currently deciding between these two schools. i know this thread's old but i hope people are still following... can anyone tell me more about either of the programs? i'm interested in hearing from those who have graduated/ are in the program- what do you think of it? organization/ structure of the program, the clinicals, profs/ classes. how do you balance your life between school, work, socially, etc? thanks!
  15. does anyone know people in/graduated from the program? i'm interested in what they think about it..
