Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!
A friend of a friend found out last week that she's in so decisions are certainly starting to go out.
Beledi - that's the best attitude to have! Last year I found out in the third round of decisions and every day (sometimes multiple times) when I checked Wolverine Access I'd say "No news is not bad news." In past years a group of decisions would go out and then no one would hear for a month or so (so TRY not to stress if you guys don't hear anything right away).
hi all!
i'm new to allnurses.com. a friend recommended me as i'm deciding between msu and umich's accelerated programs (i just got my acceptance to umich last thursday! :)
i wanted to ask those who are/ were in the umich program what they think of it. how did you balance your life with school, work, and other things? how do you view the program/ it's organization/ classes and profs? is anyone participating in the mentorship program?
thanks for your help :)

Opinions are going to vary when it comes to classes and instructors depending on personality and personal interests. Each class has its ups and downs.
As for balancing life and school, you just do it. It's not easy, but you do what you have to do. At times it can be difficult to cope, but you can expect to learn a great deal of information in a short amount of time and you will make new friends. We take it day by day; some days are better than others but as a whole, the program is flying by and we will be competent nurses when we graduate - still green and in need of experience, but ready for the workforce. In the end, it is very rewarding and you will get out of it what you want.
I don't know of anyone participating in the mentor program, but I can't speak for everyone in the program. They didn't offer it until a month or two into the program; by that time, we didn't really feel as though we had time to hunt down our mentor and explain our history. It may have been better if the mentor program were set up in August before the program started.
We created a facebook site for the group and that has served as an incredible resource to share information, vent frustrations, and celebrate victories. We also got together for a meet-and-greet before the program started to break the ice and that was a great kick-off (about a third of the people in our program showed). Congrats!
musician's wife,
thanks for your input! it sounds like you have a really solid community there.
i'm hoping to learn more about students' perception of the program so i can make a more informed decision. i know everyone has their own opinions and experiences, which is why i'm interested in hearing about them. i know umich's program is highly ranked but that doesn't tell me too much.
