University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I'm in! YAY! I'm in! Soooooo happy!!

Mine also said "You have accepted admission to the university." I always had one box that said this from my first degree. Now my nursing application says it too. =D

I haven't gotten any mail or email yet. I applied mid-December.

I applied in August. So yea, only been waiting for almost 6 months LOL. Soooo, are we SURE that's what that message means? Those of you that were already accepted, is that what yours says? I need that confirmation email or "big envelop" to make it official

I'm 95% certain that's acceptance. I'm anxious to gain that last 5% with a big envelope, email, or phone call on Monday... or others on here... whichever comes first. :) I'm not stressing about it too much because I have that comfort of seeing my old application listed with the same comment.

Probably contact University Admissions on Monday just to be sure, but I was already accepted (in January) and I'm a UofM alumna. I had the same message on my wolverine access when I was accepted. You won't receive a big packet if you're an alumni (at least I didn't) but you will get emails and a one-page letter. You have to reactivate your umich account (if it is not being used currently) so you might get a message from MCIT first.

Hope it works out for you guys! Looking forward to meeting everyone at orientation. :)

Congrats everybody. Looks like they finally made some decisions! For those of you who are accepted, do you have an admissions letter stipulating additional prerequisites that must be completed prior to starting the program? Or were you already done with them?

I'm sure we'll get a letter in the mail sometime in the next week or so but nothing yet.... I have all of my prereqs done except the Family Communications requirement and pharmacology, both of which, I'm completing this semester. That means I should be good for a class-free summer before starting refreshed in the fall.

I know I've wondered about people's profiles over the past year as they got accepted so I'll share mine since I'm sure at least a few of you are wondering....

I currently have a 3.96 GPA with nearly all of my prereqs complete. I had a 3.1 from my previous degree so those of you wondering about sub-par GPA's from your past coming back to haunt you, don't sweat it. Just know that you will likely need to have more science prereqs completed with A's to show them you can do it.

On the side I took the CNA course (never the licensing test, though), a phlebotomy course (lots of fun!), a number of online noncredit (lifelong learning) credits like "HIPAA Compliance" and "Natural Health and Healing." Anything with a health-related title, I took it! lol

I also volunteered at a local non-profit health clinic for a year and a half, got a job tutoring students in biology, and I had very passionate essays - my mom died from cancer when I was in college earning my first degree. Not one of my essays was a sob-story, I just talked about how that changed my life and why I will be a good nurse because of it.

I also didn't rush my application. I started it in August and didn't submit it until December. I wanted to make sure I was completely happy with my application. I think I went through about 12 drafts of each of my essays. haha By waiting until December, I was able to let them know what I did over the semester: I only had one test left in biochem and was holding a solid A in the course, so I was able to report that, and I also got the tutoring job in November, so I was able to add that. So I guess my other piece of advice would be not to worry too much about WHEN your application goes in, just try to get it in before Christmas and you should be fine (this is something they told me once when I called, too)

Good luck to all!!! I can't wait to meet everyone!

Sara, I haven't gotten the letter yet, but I'm sure i will in the next couple of days. I'm taking 4 pre-reqs this semester and I have one more (Pharm) to take over the summer

OK, just got an email from UM :-) Now it's "official"

How weird that you got it on a Saturday! Congratulations, Dave!

I got my letter in the mail yesterday. :)

Is anyone still waiting to hear from UofM?? My application wasn't complete until the end of January. I thought I heard they wanted to have all the decisions made by March.
