University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I went to the information meeting this week and they will be taking 64 for Fall 2010. For those of you who got accepted already, can you offer any advice?? I have a 3.53 nursing pre-req GPA but my undergrad is low(3.0). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck everyone.

Spend a lot of time writing some good essays. If they do rolling admissions again get you application in as soon as it opens. I did not have a high undergrad GPA (3.4), but it did not seem as important as the nursing prerequisite classes. Good luck, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks Parris, this is good information. One question, do you think I will have any trouble getting into U of M with a 3.0?? My most recent course work is 3.6. Thanks again.

I really do not know what or if they have a cut off. I think it is a good thing however that you have been increasing it. I know that really helped me that I was able to say each semester I have been able to increase my GPA. I also explained in my essay of why my course work was not has high as I would like it during the period of time when it was low. Good luck!

Has anyone who was waitlisted for the 2009 cohort heard back from U of M?

I haven't heard anything.....planning on starting EMU's 2nd career program this Fall

Oh and I do know of 2 people who received calls either off the waitlist or to send in transcripts because they were being considered......I figure there's no hope at this point since they start August 17th. I'm mentally and physically prepared to attend EMU :)

Yes, I know of one person who was accepted off the waitlist. She heard in mid-May back from them. I think they told her there were 5 others attending the late orientation session with her.

Good luck!

Does anyone know typically how long it takes to hear back form U of M?? I heard applying early is best but I thought I also read that U of M takes a long time to let people know if they are admitted, wait listed or denied. If one applies in August, is it conceivable to hear by October?? Thanks.

Hi, I waited 5 months to find out I was wait listed. A friend of mine who applied in August who got in, waited 6 months.

Wow, thanks wannabenurse84. To me that is a uneccessarily long time to wait and certainly longer than any other program I am applying to based on my discussions with others. I think for those who still have classes to take, waiting so long is not a good thing. You could technically be taking classes for U or M only to find you are not getting in. I think their system needs to be changed if its taking that long. Thanks again. I guess you have to roll the dice and hope the hard work pays off.
