University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

oh ok! Yeah I also the read the same thing on the web site.

Hi,

I am also facing the tough decision of which school to go to. I put the $500 deposit down for U of D & the $200 deposit for U of M. I really dont have much time left considering U of D starts May 18th & U of M wants me to register the 18th. I know everyone's first choice would be U of M, but I am still doing my research. I know that it's a great school, but I haven't heard the best reviews about their Undergrad Nursing Porgram their masters is one of the best in the country. I have heard alot of great things about U of D, but I see their orientation was less structured than U of M. I love the organization of U of M. If it was my choice I would go to Wayne State they have the best in the state of Michigan. :uhoh3:

I would take Wayne State over the others. They want classes other programs do not want. I have heard Wayne State is the best.

Anyone still waiting on UMich? Any news? When was the last day for the accepted students orientation again?

I am finishing my junior year at U of M-Ann Arbor and plan on applying to the second-degree program next school year. I was taking prereqs for physical therapy school but decided I would rather be a nurse. My cumulative gpa is a 2.98, but my prereq gpa is 3.5 and am taking more prereqs this fall and will be done with them next winter in time for graduation, so there is more room to improve both gpas. Because my gpa is just under a 3.0 and there is rolling admissions, should I apply as soon as possible, or wait for the fall semester to finish in December and apply with a cumulative 3.0? I've held a job during school since I was a freshman, and volunteered at the University Hospital and Mott Children's Hospital since I was a sophomore so have patient-contact experience. Any advice?

Apply early. You have to fill out a time line for completing your classes. Early is better.

Work on improving your GPA and keep volunteering and you should be set.

Good luck.

Hi Nicole1224,:D

I would apply as early as possible it only helps u it doesnt hurt u @ all. U r an alumnai (use that 2 ur advantage) u don't have to continue to fork over money for an app. fee so whats the harm in applying. I appled in 2007 with only 3 classes completed (none anatomy) of course I got denied but I know a few people admitted now that still have 4 classes to complete. Try to get your G.P.A. as hight as possible I think the key is to ace anatomy. I honestly don't think they look too much @ volunteer and hospital experience but it won't hurt u. I have never worked nor volunteered @ a hospital my background is in teaching. I honestly don't know what the rolling admissions is when I applied in 2008 I had to apply all over again & I had all but 2 classes completed (stats & patho) & I got admitted in February. Not sure how your writing skills are but I am sure a strong essay would help u. I would keep an open mind apply to as many schools as possible second career is extremely competative. I have a 3.9 G.P.A Wayne State Denied me 3 days after the app. deadline. I was heartbroken but I had to switch up my game plan I took classes for every accelerated program in metro detroit & it worked.

Best of Luck :yeah:

Apply early and spend a lot of time writing your essays! I think they look most at the science prereqs. so try to do as well as you can in those. The earlier the better, like the first few weeks of when the application opens in August.

Good luck!

UMich isnt accepting applications for 2010. Does that mean they arent offering the accelerated program for 2010?? Did anyone hear about the program being cut?

No, for 2009 they did not open up the application until August. So if they do the same rollling admissions they will open up the application in August and then you can submit it anytime after it open until November. However, the ealier the better because of the rolling admissions. They told us at a preview day for fall of 2009 that next year they will be accepting even more application than this year (64) and I think they said 72 for next year.

Good luck.

I see. Theyre just not accepting applications now. But they will later. Maybe they'll restructure the admissions process this time around? Thanks for the info!

aNY ONE THAT WAS ACCEPTED GOING TO THE MAY ORIENTATION?
