University of Michigan 2nd Degree Accelerated BSN

Published

Has anyone applied to the University of Michigan's 2nd degree accelerated nursing program for start date Sept. 2014? Just curious to see what other applicants there are out there. I saw a very long thread in the past that had a lot of info on how long UofM takes to make decisions & felt we could all keep each other in the loop on how things are going for each of us. Good luck to all!

Hmm. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that. I understand that from the University's point of view, they want they best and most qualified applicants. Also, they are essentially a business and want tuition money. I wonder how many applications is considered a reasonable amount for them.

From the student perspective though, this is really frustrating for me. Especially when it explicitly states on their website that they do rolling admissions. Which should mean that each application is assessed on an individual basis as they come in. So now I'm wondering if it doesn't even matter how soon we got our applications in after it opened? I'll definitely try to call the school this week to get some answers, because I am very anxious as well as annoyed about how their review process works.

yeah exactly, they say it is rolling admissions but it really isn't. originally at the application overview session they said they wouldn't release any decisions until may but I just emailed them a couple weeks ago and they said they can release the decisions at any point and they hope to have them all out by the beginning of may. What are they telling everyone else? I hope they arent saying different things because the waiting is making me go crazy over here.

They told me they would plan on releasing decisions in early May. I would start msu's program and have to look for housing (which fills fast!) so I decided I can't wait that long. I'm just going to msu. They have a great program anyway!

I talked to them maybe 3 weeks ago.

It's really frustrating that they don't mail letters until May with rolling admissions.. that isn't rolling admissions. If they are going to release acceptance and denial letters all at once then they need to change their policy! It just stinks cause most schools require you to let them know by a certain date (before May), but U of M is my top choice and would like to know their decision.

yeah I completely agree. They are my number one choice and I applied in September. waiting 9 months is a bit much

Did anyone apply to any other ABSN program or other type of program?

So I just spoke with someone from admissions asking them to clarify/explain how the rolling admissions process works if they release all decisions in May.

Basically she told me that even if you got your application in early, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll hear first. But that being said, applications are reviewed as they come in aka first come first serve.

She also said that we could get a decision from anytime now until May, but EVERYONE will get a decision by May.

Even though I still expect to hear in May, maybe that can give us all a little hope that we could get some acceptances before that!

yeah thats what they told me, too

At least it's a little relieving that they're being somewhat consistent with what they're telling us.

haha that is true!

@nkw05 Have you heard back from Vanderbilt yet? I already found out I've been accepted to Vandy, but financially UM is a better option. However, I just calculated the tuition difference and it looks like UM would be about $92k before fees/other expenses and Vandy would be about $120k including fees, but VU does give small scholarships so I'm estimating the price difference is about $20k, which doesn't seem like an enormous difference between the two in the grand scheme of things. What are your deciding factors between the two? Any thoughts on the financial difference?
