University of Michigan 2nd Degree Accelerated BSN

Published

Has anyone applied to the University of Michigan's 2nd degree accelerated nursing program for start date Sept. 2014? Just curious to see what other applicants there are out there. I saw a very long thread in the past that had a lot of info on how long UofM takes to make decisions & felt we could all keep each other in the loop on how things are going for each of us. Good luck to all!

Hi! I've also applied to the accelerated program for fall 2014. I've talked to someone at the admissions office and they told me we should expect to hear something by February. It's so awful to wait through the entire month of January!! I can't wait to hear!

Wow that exciting! I am just trying not think about it anymore...but I'm sure my heart will be beating 180 times per minute when I do get an email! I promise to keep everyone posted on anything I hear!

I kind of wonder if admissions tell people different things from what I've read in past threads. I called and they said that they haven't made a decision as to when they would release any decisions. But I hope the answer you got was correct!

Ugh me too! I hate how they can never give a straight answer. It's not like my entire life is relying on this or anything. ?

I know right! Did you apply to any other schools? I also applied to msu.

Oh nice, I didn't apply to any other schools for an accelerated program (I go to MSU right now). I did apply though to a direct entry MSN program at Vanderbilt. It's a two year program where the first year your get your BSN equivalency, then get certified, and the second year is the MSN specific courses for your chosen speciality.

I didn't apply to MSU because I would have to take two more additional classes after I graduate in May for their prerequisites. Plus it seems like they have some of the highest requirements to get in, at least to me!!

I went to msu too and applied twice to their traditional program and didn't get in. This is my first time applying to any accelerated program. Where is Vanderbilt? Yes I hear msu is very hard to get into. They say they take a holistic approach when looking at apps but I hear uofm does a better job of that. But the downside is that uofm takes a long time to get back to you.

Vanderbilt is in Nashville, Tennessee. It definitely will be interesting to see the difference between State's accelerated vs traditional program then! I get that GPA is extremely important, but it doesn't define an applicant like some schools make it out to be. And yeah U of M needs to hurry it up, I'm impatient!

I heard from MSU today and got in! I am going to wait and see what I hear from UofM before I make an actual decision, but I did at least reserve my spot for MSU :)

I know I wrote this aready, but it's still so awesome I want to say congrats again!

Thanks nkw05!

I was just looking at UofM's course list and MSU's for the accelerated program and it's crazy how different the amount of credits are! MSU's program is 48 credits (including pharmacology) and UofM's is 72 credits (not including Pharm)! I know UofM incorporates two masters level courses into their program at 3 credits each but I just don't see why there is still a 14 credit difference when UofM's program is only 2 months longer than MSUs. At MSU you take 10-15 credits/semester and at UofM you can count on taking 18 every semester! I am really wondering if UofM is better than MSU or not...

The other thing about UofM (pro) is that all of the clinicals are right in the Ann Arbor area, which saves on drive-time. At MSU you have to drive 2-4 hours per day for clinicals. I haven't been accepted to UofM yet but if I am I don't know how to pick which school :/

I am getting married in May (conveniently the first week after MSUs program starts), so naturally attending UofM would be more convenient for me because I would be way less stressed out and get to go on a honeymoon, but I am trying to think bigger picture. Any advice from what you've heard about each program?
