University of Miami FNP Spring 2018

Published

Hi everyone, I've been looking around to see if anyone has started a thread for UM's Spring 2018 FNP program so I decided to start one myself so that we can all be here for each other. Applications opened up Apr 1st and I have started on my personal statement but my GPA is a little low and I'm afraid i won't get accepted; I have met the 3.0 requirement but I am still a little unsure. Also, I graduated from my BSN program end of last year, recently passed my NCLEX and got a job in the ER. Although, experience is not a requirement does that lower my chances?Anyone knows how the application process works for UM or have any advice, tips that would be useful? Can't wait to hear from you all. :-)

Thank you, Dreamrn2017! & I can't wait to meet you all also!

Hey guys, quick update. I got selected for an interview. Does everyone get selected or just a few? Also, for those who workin the ER, are there any specific questions they ask relevant to the unit? Since I am a new grad, I'd like to somewhat of an insight before I go in. Thank you!

Hi dreamrn2017, thanks for the good luck wish! *fingers crossed*

Also, I am worried that they will ask difficult questions, I'm a brand new nurse.

Hi ERNurse94,

I am glad you are selected for an interview. The most important thing is to remain simple but confident. Be honest in your answers and do not try to speak too much. My interview lasted about 7 minutes as my answers to their questions were simple and straight to the point. You have to tell them about your experience as a nurse and they will ask questions accordingly. Don't be all over the place and acknowledge everyone by maintaining eye contact. Good luck!

Thank you dreamrn2017 :-) will keep your advice in mind.

You're welcome ERNurse94!

Congrats on the interview! I too applied for the program and received an email that they are reviewing my application. I am an ER nurse so I am a little worried as to what my questions are going to be since we have peds and general ER. I feel like it could be anything!

ERNurse94,

How did your interview go? I too am an ER nurse and am worried about the questions they may ask. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi everyone. I had my interview last Thursday for ACNP, the interview was so simple and straightforward.

Hi ErickaQ, mine was last week. It was also simple and straight forward: be yourself and make sure you keep eye contact. tell them about yourself, what's the role of the BP, why you chose UM, and they will ask you a clinicals question so make sure to brush over the most common disease processes you receive in your unit
