University of Miami accelerated nursing program Spring 2017

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the accelerated nursing program for Spring of 2017. I was wondering if any of you are applying also and where you are in the application process? I feel like I may have a started the application a little late and I'm wondering if that'll lower my chances of getting in.

Hii i did get that link. I spoke with Anna Castro today. She is so nice ans professional. I was nervous that my transcripts might take longer to be verified so she told me send them directly so I sent them overnight mail. Hopefully they'll get it ny tomorrow if not def monday. Keeping finger crossed. Really want to get into UM!!!

also if you can, try requesting electronic transcripts instead of snail mail, and have it emailed directly to her. you can call her to verify if you want, but that's what i did - so much quicker and stress-free lol. it's a busy time for her and the other admission staff, but she's super nice so don't be nervous. if you want a quick answer, calling her is the best way of communicating with her.

i definitely want to get into UM too, but only if i can get the scholarship. or else i'll wait another year and apply to schools in my home-state since it'll be so much cheaper (and i'd get to live at home and keep my job). though for those waiting on the scholarship, it's going to be a LONG wait until december 30th, which is when you should hear something.

i got the email from the scholarship committee. about 2 weeks after you mail them your application, you should receive an email stating that they have gotten your app. and that panel interviews take place in december if selected, and results by dec. 30th.

Hi, after I spoke to Anna Castro, I sent in one of my transcripts electronically, and the other one via next day air. She said they can calculate my GPA.

OMG OMG OMG!!! I just got my acceptance letter!!!! YAYYYY

Also my dog bit my face right before I checked canelink, talk about lows and highs

I don't even care about my face anymore! So Happy right now!! Was about to start sending transcripts again

OMG That is great news!!Congratulations @angier731 Just keep the rest of us in your prayers lol

Haha thank you! And yes absolutely, you guys will probably get something real soon. Keep me updated. And then we can start a FB group!!

that's fast!! congrats!!!! despite the cost, getting your BSN in one year is very tempting!! i'm literally going crazy knowing that if i get accepted (IIIIF), would it be insane to accept and take the loans or wait 1-2 years in my home state and apply for nursing school then. miami is also very expensive to live compared to GA. i would love to just get that one year over with and be done already, instead of waiting another 1-2 years to even get started on a nursing program. and the waiting lists here isn't too pretty... unless i want to go private. aaaaah, choices.

Thank you! Yes I agree the loans suck but honestly I already have a lot of loans and I initially wanted to go to medical school so I had already like mentally accepted the whole loans thing lol it's inevitable at least for people like me who don't live at home or have rich parents. The only thing in my favor here is that I already live in Miami so I don't need to relocate. Living here is definitely not cheap but with roommates it can be doable, also some areas are definitely cheaper than others. If you guys have any questions about living in Miami just let me know!! I'm just glad I don't need to move away because my family is here and you know how latin people are close to their family! UM is a just short 8 mile drive from my home!

omgggg so jelly!! living at home definitely have its perks compared to going out of state. but if i do get accepted and decide to go to UM, i'll definitely hit you up on that offer!! i've never been to miami before. i love atlanta, but i wouldn't mind living in miami for nursing school. i am not a fan of cold weather. does it even get cold in the winter over there? like, would i even need to bring any winter clothing?

i'm thinking, if i stay in GA, i wouldn't even start nursing school until late 2017 or 2018. but if i go to UM, bam - this time next year, we'll be almost done!

do you plan on living in miami after nursing school?

Well if you get in I would say definitely take it and try to ignore the price tag. These Accelerated BSN programs are extremely hard to get into and very competitive especially if the school is public because more people apply because it's so much cheaper. It really depends if yo want to wait for something better but also some of these programs are longer. I just wouldn't even think about it twice. And if you don't like cold weather then this is definitely the place for you! We are lucky if we get a cold front or two that lasts 2 days in February. You can go to the beach all year round. Also beach is like.. 15 min away. Not that I see us having much time for that during this program! So yea definitely no winter gear, maybe a light jacket or sweater lol the coldest with a cold front normally doesn't go past like 50 or so. And actually no I have been in Miami since I was 9 and I'm kinda over this party scene, I want to settle down elsewhere. But who knows what opportunity will present itself you know? I actually wouldn't mind going somewhere with all four seasons nut just summer year round!

i lived in a country where it was essentially summer all year round, and it was bliss. winters hovering in the 80s. only a light jacket when it becomes slightly chilly at night (or when the AC is on full blast). ah, it was beautiful. i can definitely live without the 4 seasons.

and you make a good point. all ABSN programs in GA (i think there's only like, 4 in the entire state) are no less than 15 months. at least in UM, i get to start much earlier than anticipated (in jan, woo!!) and finish by the end of the year (woooo!!!).

so we'll see lol

oh snap! did they tell you anything about financial aid, official total cost of the program + additional fees, etc.?

Exactly.. also I looked into other private schools and they can be not only longer but also over 50,000! The letter does say the total tuition cost is $40,000 with additional $1040 in nursing fees. And nothing specific about financial aid, just basically to fill out a FAFSA application. Im guessing they will mail me more information soon. So far all I have is the letter through Canelink, and it lets me accept already I just noticed and pay the $500 deposit, which I am about to do right now!! lol
