Anyone applying to the University of Miami ABSN program for next summer 2012?

Hi! I also got accepted to the UM-ABSN Summer program. Im super excited! Im a fellow UM Alumni so I can't wait to be back at the U!! Has anyone received any packages so far? I heard the Admissions office will be sending it in March... Let me know! :)

I haven't gotten any more information (beyond the general new student stuff from Admissions) yet. Starting to wonder when we'll need to start our background checks, order uniform scrubs and things like that. I called SONHS last week but no one had any answers for me. So, sounds more info will be coming in March...

I heard it only takes a few weeks for Background Checks & all. It's a new company that SONHS will be doing rather than the previous ones. The scrubs you can buy at the UM Bookstore. The rest I believe is included in a package that they will be sending soon. If anyone wants to meet up at campus, let me know! I'll be glad to give a tour! :)

I also started a new thread just for UM accelerated BSN 2012 students or status updaters... https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/university-miami-accelerated-679234.html#post6190246

Can't wait to meet ya!

No way! That is such good news! I thought I would be the only one with a crazy commute! Are you planning on living in Coconut Creek while in the program or are you going to move to Miami? So excited!

Not sure why not replying directly to your response Kamryn10:

Chesca6, where do you live? I'm originally from Boca, and will be moving back home to save money (I'm currently living in New Jersey). If you're as far north as I am, I'd love to have company on the daily commute!

Miamigirl22, you seem to know a lot about the program already! Do you know if we have to buy the scrubs through the bookstore, or are we allowed to get cheaper ones somewhere else? I found a medical supply outlet near me that I'm guessing has better prices for things we'll need, and I'd rather get my scrubs and stuff there if possible! I'll be moving down to South Florida in the next few weeks, and I'd definitely love to take you up on your tour offer!

Yes I do! I have a couple of friends that have graduated from the program. I heard you need to purchase them at the UM bookstore or with the company the school will give you. I dont think you can get another company brand. They are very strict when it comes to dress code in the hospital. Plus the scrubs have the UM logo on it and its mandatory to have it in your scrubs. I think the only thing you can probably save money on is books if you find out which ones are the needed for the program. I hope this info helps! Best of luck! Ill give you a tour anytime!

@miamigirl22: What did you friends say about the program? Did they like it? Pros/cons?

I live Delray, but I have no plans on commuting. I found someone to live with and will be getting an apt. I can't stand traffic nor driving everyday if I don't have to.

Yea you put the idea in my head to take the Tri-Rail then do a transfer on the MetroRail since one of the stops is at the University. From May until September, I'll be commuting from Coconut Creek after that I am unsure. Im thinking about moving further south it depends if I renew my lease...Maybe we can commute together

Hi Danceluver! Ive heard many pros and cons about the program but everyone has their own story to write about in Nursing school. We can all go through these experiences differently. Its definitely a very tough program and we will all be having application questions in our exam that can at times be difficult. Some people are good at it and some aren't... But we all experience it differently as long as we pass and survive it we'll be good. I just know for a fact that University of Miami has the highest NCLEX rating in South Florida. I believe UF is #1 in Florida but either way we are in good hands. If you or anyone have any more questions...You can join my thread at https://allnurses.com/fl-nursing-programs/university-miami-accelerated-679234.html#post6198392...

Thanks, xoxo!
