Welcome! I wanted to have a place where everyone accepted into University of Miami's Accelerated BSN program (May 2010) could introduce themselves. I am very exited about this opportunity and a bit nervous. I have not even seen the campus yet and have been to Miami only once in my life. I grew up in Cali so I am sure I will love it! Anyone know what they are going to do for housing? What's everyones background? I cant wait!
I am not exactly sure right now what my price range is. Do you have a facebook account? There was a group created by someone in the program just for the UMiami Accelerated BSN 2010 cohort ?!?!
Congratulations to all of you on your acceptance to University of Miami. I have a question to all of you. I sent my application last week for the Accelerated second degree program for the fall 2010 and I wanted to know my chances of getting accepted. I have a 3.1 from my previous degree and a 4.0 on my pre-requisites. Do I have a chance? Could any of you tell me what was your GPA when you got accepted? Thank you.
Hello!
Congrats to all who were accepted! I also applied this round but I haven't heard back and I'm pretty confused... I submit my application in October and it's now February. I called Miami this morning and all they could tell me was that they indeed have all my materials but they can't tell me what date I am supposed to hear back by, since there is no specific date. What?? How can they leave me hanging like this? Does anyone have a phone number at Miami I can call to check? When I called the Nursing office this morning they transferred me to FIVE different people before I got any kind of answer!
Hi, I'm Kimberly. I was just accepted into the Accelerated BSN program at the University of Miami for Summer 2010! I'm excited, a bit nervous and shocked at the amount of things I need to do to be ready for start in 3 months...moving, financial aid, scholarship apps, current classes, etc. I'll be very appreciative of any advice regarding any of the above, especially affordable, safe housing. Kindy, where are you coming from in Michigan? I'm originally from the Flint area, but live in Sarasota now. Thanks in advance for any info and looking forward to meeting everyone soon!
Also, from what I have heard from all the other people in the program, downtown Miami is going to be the most affordable. Brickell is a good area, but it's also more expensive, and Coral Gables is a rip off. So I think I'm going to try to focus more on the South Miami/Downtown Miami area :) I'm planning to head down in March to try to find an apartment and to check out the campus.

Hi Max Dog,
This was my experience as well.. . they seem a quite unorganized...my suggestion is that you go to both Admissions and the School of Nursing and Health Studies in person (if you are able) to check on your application status...Calling gets you the run around.
I live in Boston and made the trip down to Miami last month on faith...after experiencing the same telephone run around you describe.
I went in person to Admissions and a representative only told me that my application is on file, but they could tell me no further.
I walked over to the School of Nursing and there I spoke to someone who was very helpful and basically told me that I had been accepted and was in the Nursing school's computer system already...
I told her that I'd never received an acceptance letter and then she looked and saw that the writing of my letter had been put on a shelf and never gotten to. : (
However she promised to put the task in the right hands.
About twenty minutes later, I returned to Admissions to let them know this and this time a different representative was sitting at the desk and he looked up my application status and said that I was accepted and in their computer system as such for a few days.
So I don't know what the first representative had been doing just 20 minutes prior, but I suspect she hadn't even looked at my file and had just told me it was being processed to get me to buzz off!
Angering to say the least!
Anyhow, to make a long story short, my acceptance letters both from the School of Nursing and from Admissions came in the mail a few days after I returned to Boston...
I hope my sharing my experience helps someone---it's worth the trip to go in person to advocate for yourself..
congratulations on your acceptance!! I also am looking for living arrangements and would preferably like to live with someone who is in the program. I have began looking for off-campus apartments and am trying to find something nice and relatively inexpensive. If you find something, please let me know. Thanks so much. Look foward to metting all of you :)
Hi all,
I'm not from Miami either.
I suggest visiting with the UM Off Campus Housing coordinator. I had the opportunity to visit with her and she was extremely helpful.
She gave me a map of the area and great suggestions, even told me about inbound and outbound traffic times...the most helpful information is the website on which there is a forum in which people renting post specifically for UM students
Check out this website: www.miami.edu/housing
Hope this helps!
Blessings : )
