University of Miami Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

Published

Hello :)

I am kind of early with this thread, but I am pretty excited about the possibility of starting nursing school in May! Anybody else out there considering UM's ABSN program for summer 15? Also, anybody that has gotten in the program if you don't mind sharing helpful information, please do! I will still have 3 outstanding pre-reqs that I am registered to take in Spring. My cum GPA & pre-req GPA without those last 3 classes will be a 3.3 for both. I think I have a fair chance, could be better! (and will be once I finish pre-reqs) But anyway, share your thoughts about this program if you are considering as well! & good luck :)

Yeah, I live in Miami so it definitely got to me faster.

@tabularawsa Just a heads up, I called the school today and spoke with admissions. She said due to weather conditions nursingcas is behind (it is in Massachusetts).. so verification might take longer. BUT she said that it does not have to be verified for them to make a decision (idk if you knew that, but I didn't!). & That they will be reviewing applications next week and decisions will be out that following week. Hope this helps!

Just received my decision letter. I'm in !!!! Congrats everyone~

I'll most likely be turning down Miami.

Thank you!! I called today as well and was told the same thing:) I suppose it's good news either way. Again, much appreciated :)

Received my letter yesterday -- I am in Pittsburgh, PA so I could tell that it took a little bit longer. Still did not receive information from admissions about my canelink, though, so I can't pay the deposit to admissions. However, they told me deposits are due 2 weeks from yesterday (Monday, February 23rd). Congrats to all that have gotten in so far! And good luck to the rest! I am definitely attending and will be moving the last week of April! How exciting! So much to do by then!!!

@Mandaaleiigh Congratulations! How exciting for you to make the move!! Yup, Canelink still not working for me either, the helpdesk sent me an e-mail that they're still working on it today. I didn't want to chance it though, so I just called admissions for an address yesterday to mail the $300 check today. I didn't know that there's perhaps more time to do so, I would've preferred doing it online. See you in May!

We should start a facebook group!

Hey Everyone!

I've just been accepted to the May cohort and am super nervous about getting the forms in time!! It turns out I was accepted earlier this month, but I had extreme snaaaail mail. :nailbiting: So I still have to pay the deposit and still don't have the option in Canelink.

Just wondering, what are you guys thinking about for housing? I was thinking about living between the main campus and medical campus, but even then, I'm not sure where our clinical are held. Also I have no clue which neighborhoods are the most affordable or safest. I'm coming from the West Coast, so it's going to be huge move for me. :clown:

Thanks!

@kirilova First off, congratulations! Now breathe! If it helps you feel better my Canelink still doesn't let me pay online either.. It just updated saying I was admitted today when according to my letter I was admitted on the 13th. I ended up paying both my fees via snail mail. You can gain access to Canelink like the way I did though since I was never actually sent an e-mail to login initially. Go to the website for Canelink and try to create an account using your SSN, and it should tell you your username is already established and what it is. If you then go back to the sign in page and click "forgot password" they should give you a phone number to call. The IT support desk will be able to reset your password, and you're in!

Now aside from the Canelink, I would call the nursing school. You should be fine, but just let them know you intentions and the issue. I'm sure other students have had similar problems and they will be understanding!

I don't have too much advice on housing since I already live in Miami, so sorry about that! UM is surrounded by a safe neighborhood, but it's pricey. I know there's at least one hospital pretty much right next to the nursing school on the main campus. Not sure how many clinicals we will do there or if we will be mainly at the hospital downtown, or other sites. Good luck and hope this all helps!! Congratulations again!!

Hey from a student that started spring 2015! I am absolutely loving the program so far and highly recommend it! It's definitely been tough, but that's going to come with any accelerated program. The professors are awesome and are all extremely accomplished/knowledgable. Good luck to you all!

@risser

Thank you risser, I really appreciate it! :) I guess it's just one step at a time. And I ended up doing exactly what you advised. :D I got access to Canelink today and was able to view everything.

Do you know the average price for apartments around Coral Gables? And where would you be staying?

Also congratulations to your acceptance as well!!

Hello everyone! I came across this page and decided to become a member to follow everyone's application progress. I just read through the entire thread and it was so exciting going from you all being super anxious to relieved with acceptances! Btw congratulations to you all that have been accepted!

So I've had a lot going on lately and sadly I finally submitted my application today ;( but i'm trying to stay positive. Honestly if its meant to be for me it will happen if not i'll reapply for spring. The good thing is that my transcripts and evaluations got received over a month ago. All it was waiting on was me to finish the app and submit my essay and resume. So I guess my application would be under verification now since they have everything?

I graduated from UF with a degree in biology. My gpa is about a 3.65 with a 4.0 in my prereqs. I have a couple questions for you guys since you've all been in this waiting game for over a month now and know so much. First, who exactly is an AC? I'm going to guess its something with admissions but how have you been able to get in contact with them? Because i've contacted the school of nursing twice and whoever answered the phone wasn't very helpful and didn't seem to know the answers. She kept asking me to call back -_- if someone could give me a good contact number that would be awesome. I know my app still has a while for verification but i'd like to try calling before anyhow to see if they received maybe in a couple days. I saw someone saying that UM has your app even if it hasnt been verified. Thanks guys, any input, advice, comments help.
