University of Miami Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

I am kind of early with this thread, but I am pretty excited about the possibility of starting nursing school in May! Anybody else out there considering UM's ABSN program for summer 15? Also, anybody that has gotten in the program if you don't mind sharing helpful information, please do! I will still have 3 outstanding pre-reqs that I am registered to take in Spring. My cum GPA & pre-req GPA without those last 3 classes will be a 3.3 for both. I think I have a fair chance, could be better! (and will be once I finish pre-reqs) But anyway, share your thoughts about this program if you are considering as well! & good luck :)

Also, I checked my messages on my canelink and I haven't received any :( I'm guessing it will also update after I receive the snail mail like @risser's did. Thanks for the advice! I'll call Monday if I don't receive a letter by then.

Risser, no problem at all (pertaining to creating a group page for our class) And my Canelink wasn't updated until I emailed UM IT tech support.

Krysty0214, yes, definitely give them a call on Monday and email the IT dept incase they can fix your Canelink as well

I called today and they told me that a decison was made on my application this Friday, so I just have to wait now for either a letter or an e-mail. I thought they already told me a decision was made though, and that I would find out by the end of last week, but I guess not :/ Hopefully I hear back soon... Did you guys ever receive a canelink email?

@Krysty0214 I didn't get any update or e-mail from Canelink until four days after I got my snail mail acceptance. Even then, it may have been because I called the IT support when it didn't update after two days. Good luck!! I know waiting is hard :(

@risser, do you know how long it took them to mail the letter after they made their decision? I'm guessing another week?

@Krysty0214 My letter was dated 8 days before it arrived! But I live in Florida, so that might affect when yours arrives by a day or two depending where you live.

@kirilova Well traffic can be bad at times.. But there's a lot of side streets and different routes to take depending on where you live (as long as there aren't too many lights lol). U.S 1 (South Dixie Hwy) is the main road right by UM and can be pretty bad though at the wrong time of day. But if you're used to living in a city with traffic, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Thanks! I'm from Seattle and traffic gets crazy bad here! Parking in the city usually cost more per hour than our min. wage too. But that's just a random fact..

I spoke with AC this morning, and she seemed to have recommended that I not bring a car, which was really surprising to me. Other ABSN programs I've applied to, highly suggested that I did.

What are you guys planning to do?

That's really weird...I feel like you really need a car, even if you live on or near campus- how would you get to and from clinicals?
