University of Miami Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

Published

Hello :)

I am kind of early with this thread, but I am pretty excited about the possibility of starting nursing school in May! Anybody else out there considering UM's ABSN program for summer 15? Also, anybody that has gotten in the program if you don't mind sharing helpful information, please do! I will still have 3 outstanding pre-reqs that I am registered to take in Spring. My cum GPA & pre-req GPA without those last 3 classes will be a 3.3 for both. I think I have a fair chance, could be better! (and will be once I finish pre-reqs) But anyway, share your thoughts about this program if you are considering as well! & good luck :)

@Mandaaleiigh My bad, I was thinking sheesh clinicals alone 7am-7pm six days a week? That'd be crazy. I was thinking that because I did see some of the class times listed in canelink for the current semester and I think one of the clinical classes was 7:30am-3:30pm so that's why my brain was not computing that the 7am-7pm would be classes included. Either way, at the end of it, it's only a year long so even if it six days it'll go by fast :)

Haha it will definitely go fast! I went through one semester (long story as to why i am transferring out- for another day) at Duquesne here in Pittsburgh and it felt like a pretty long time... Maybe because we had a 24 credit workload our first semester in... Again, we went 5 days a week: class on MWF and clinical on TR and that was a nice balance.. but we never spent 12 hours a day!!! Lol... I am very excited to get our schedules though...

P.S. Anybody like football? We get free admission to all UM sporting events! Ill most likely go to every home game. Anyone wanna be my football buddy??

I called this afternoon and orientation is definitely May 15th, so I guess I might miss my reunion :( Oh well, school is more important!

Also, thanks for adding me to the facebook group! I'm also a part of the spring 2015 fb group, because I was originally going to apply last spring but decided to wait. Good thing is, they constantly post up a bunch of helpful tips and documents that I can pass on to us!

FACE BOOK ALERT:

So I noticed that the UM ABSN Summer 2015 Facebook page is more like a friend and not a group. If somebody adds me on Facebook, I will create a Closed Group (can be searched and found but need permission from admins to be a member -- only members can see posts). My name on Facebook is Amanda Leigh (I am in Pittsburgh) or try searching by my email: [email protected] I will put my profile picture from my Facebook as my profile picture on this site that you know that it is me... Also, comment back on here when you do add me so that I know that it is someone from UM. :) I can't create the group until I have at least one other member!

P.S. I updated my privacy settings so that you can search me by my email address (since using my Facebook name will be more difficult). :)

Someone already went ahead and made a closed fb group after I noticed it was just a friend page at first. I would link it to you but I'm on my phone! Try searching again and click show all results.

Merp.... I just tried again... the only thing that comes up is the one you have to send a friend request for.. its not a group -_-

Just kidding: the name is different!

Facebook Group Name: (in case anyone else is struggling)

I am trying to join the group. Does someone have to add me?

Just got my acceptance letter in the mail!! So excited! I am still deciding on whether or not to accept my offer to UM because I was also accepted to UNF in Jacksonville, FL. I live in Pembroke Pines so moving would be a hassle but UM is 40,000 and UNF is only 12,000! Any advice??

Both are very good schools for nursing!! It all comes down to preference. Regardless of where you go, your goals will be achieved!

Congrats @amanda.disla! I would go with UNF if I were you (congrats on that as well, heard that is really hard to get into!) .. Moving is definitely a hassle but if you can avoid all of that extra debt, why not? Even with living expenses in jax + tuition for the length of the program would probably not even total $40k (I live in jax & went to UNF, cost of living is much lower and they have student apartments really close to campus for very affordable prices.) But it depends on lots of factors, I am sure you will figure it out. At least you have the options! Congrats again. Good luck.

Hey everybody! Congrats on your acceptance into the nursing program at UM! I was in your exact shoes a year ago and I'm about to graduate and take boards in 2 months!

If anybody has any specific questions let me know! I hope to help you out if I can because I know I was confused with everything going on and moving to a brand new city!

Once again congrats and relax before one of the most hectic years of your life! It will fly by!
