University of Miami Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

Published

Hello :)

I am kind of early with this thread, but I am pretty excited about the possibility of starting nursing school in May! Anybody else out there considering UM's ABSN program for summer 15? Also, anybody that has gotten in the program if you don't mind sharing helpful information, please do! I will still have 3 outstanding pre-reqs that I am registered to take in Spring. My cum GPA & pre-req GPA without those last 3 classes will be a 3.3 for both. I think I have a fair chance, could be better! (and will be once I finish pre-reqs) But anyway, share your thoughts about this program if you are considering as well! & good luck :)

@ Krysty0214 WAHOO CONGRATS! Glad the wait is over for you! See you in May!

And yeah.. definitely need a car in Miami!

Could you tell us what our schedule is like? Like how many hours a day/week? Thank you!

I found out on canelink. I got an email this morning! Thanks everyone :)

Also wondering about the class/ clinical schedule! I was told we don't find out until orientation (May 15th), but I just want more of a general idea bout how many days a week, class length, how many clinical days, etc. Does anyone know anything about this?

And you will probably die without a car... don't risk it. Parking passes are cheap! Less than $500 for the school year + a fee for summer I believe (my last school was $1700 for a year!)

Where did you find out about orientation? I might not be here that weekend, it's my college's first year reunion :/ is it mandatory?

When I called AC about my application decision.. I explained to her that I was making a pretty big move and just needed a general idea about dates that I would need to be there for certain things before the semester started. I guess since that was the case she told me about the orientation on Friday, May 15th. I believe it may be mandatory.... simply because that is probably where we will get a lot of things: student ID cards, parking passes, class schedule, etc. I don't know the specifics, but that's what she made it sound like. I think we will probably get that information after our deposits are received and processed.

I GOT IN I GOT IN I GOT IN!!!!!! Yay!!!! Can't wait to meet you all!!

also, you definitely need a car in Miami, lol.

Yaaaaaaay! Congrats!!!

So that's what I thought (about the car situation) and was extremely surprised when AC said I didn't really need it. As for clinical, she told me the majority of it is in one semester, I think the last. Whereas the majority of the time, we'll be on campus. When I asked how we'll get to clinicals, she said there's a metro that goes straight to a hospital....

I was thinking that the schedule would be 8 to 4, monday to saturday, like other ABSN schools. But AC said something like class starting at 7 am, and it could be a 7 am to 7pm day, and therefore I should try to live near campus. D:

7a-7p 6 days a week?!? That is insane!!! I started an ABSN program in Pittsburgh and decided to transfer out but we only had class 3 days a week and clinical 2 days a week and we had 6 classes!!! We were done by 2-4 at the latest depending on the day... I hope thats not what the schedule is like... I also will be living far from campus so the commute should be fun for me. haha!

Orientation on the 15th is mandatory, it said that in the first admission letter I got, so reserve the date! I don't think clinicals would be 6 days a week, when would we have class?? lol. It says on the website the most clinical hours we have per semester are like 336 hours, I think the first semester will only be the 140 hours it mentions under the FAQs.

Thats not what I meant with clinical... someone mentioned 8-4 Monday through Saturday. That is what I meant by 6 days a week. Then they mentioned 7am-7pm but did not say anything about how many days a week. (Clinical AND class included in that time). That's all I meant.

@Mandaaleiigh My bad, I was thinking sheesh clinicals alone 7am-7pm six days a week? That'd be crazy. I was thinking that because I did see some of the class times listed in canelink for the current semester and I think one of the clinical classes was 7:30am-3:30pm so that's why my brain was not computing that the 7am-7pm would be classes included. Either way, at the end of it, it's only a year long so even if it six days it'll go by fast :)
