University of Miami Accelerated BSN spring 2015

Published

Hello everyone, I just wanted to start this thread for anyone interesting or planning on applying to UM for spring 2015. I am finishing up the pre-requisites I need...doing micro class and lab. So far those are the only things I know I have to take. I'm extremely nervous, mainly because of the waiting game to see if I'm accepted or not.

I had to take over class, so I am not too happy about that either, so that also makes me a little down.

Also when I called the other day, someone said they are changing the application process, did anyone else hear that information?

Are you guys finish with all your pre-requisites?

Do you know how much repeating a class puts you in the hole for not getting accepted?

ucsdonna,

We are in the same situation. I am unsure if anyone has been accepted yet on here but I think there are a few that applied august and received the letter about log in information early september. Hopefully it won't take much longer to hear back! Fingers crossed!

Thanks everyone for info about housing. Wynwood certainly sounds like the place to be I'll have to check it out. Also, anyone know if there is a fall cohort anymore or is it just spring and summer starts?

Newhartc,

There is a cohort that begins in May which is great for back up.

I don't think anyone has heard anything yet regarding acceptance. I sent in my application a week or two ago, still waiting on my letter!! I hate this waiting game

I was not ready for the floor. I can't speak for everyone that graduated but I did not feel well enough prepared. Could be that I was hired straight into the ER and it was a bit learning curve. Or could be that I did not work hard at all in school. My GPA was. 3.3 upon completion. I would suggest looking for a residency or internship program out of school. It is a really good transition. As for NP programs right after I have friends who are doing that but I think it would be wiser to work for a while build up experience and confidence as a nurse before entering a program. Good luck again!

Hi btab3! thank you for providing your experience we really appreciate that. if you don't mind me asking, were you hired here in south florida? and do you know from your class or others if most student were able to get hired shortly after leaving school? Also how was working in the ER right after school...I know you said it was a learning curve but was it challenging to where you felt lost or lagging behind? Could you elaborate on that a little please because I think I would like to work in the ER right after school.

There seems to be a bit of a disconnect between the actual school and nursing school. I recieved an email stating that I needed a letter of recommendation from an educator(had 2 sent to nursingcas), also something about a letter from the registrar. What I do not understand is if they recieved certified transcripts why they would need this? I graduated over a decade ago! I mean my pre-reqs are fairly newer, but they are from diff. states. Anybody else have this issue?

albi296,

I initially filled out the common application, so I did not receive any other notices from the registrar. I sent recommendation letters, transcripts, and registrar evaluations to the admissions office and then was told I needed to fill out NursingCas as well. This is the first year they are using nursingcas so I think they are still trying to work the system out.

This is going to sound silly, but what is a registrars report? I graduated almost 20 years ago so Im a bit behind on the lingo. Tried an internet search but that wasnt very informative.

Thanks

albi296,

The registrar's report just said that I was in good standing with my previous university. It was a form with the common application. I filled out the common application before nursing cas opened up on 8.01.2014.

Hey everyone. I submitted my nursingcas application in august and was verified at the end of August. I went to the information session for the accelerated nursing program and asked when I would hear an admissions decisions, and they told me late September early October. The information session for the ABSN was extremely helpful and would highly recommend going if you have any questions.

bullsfan3344,

thanks so much for the info!!

Has anyone received any word yet on admissions?

I submitted my application to NursingCAS about a week ago and I haven't heard anything from either UM or NursingCas. I called yesterday to find out more info, and NursingCAS advised me it would take another additional week for them to calculate my GPA since they're still working on applications that were submitted at the very beginning of Sept... and until they have done so they can't forward my application to UM. So i'm patiently waiting -___-

I'm still in my last 4 science pre-reqs this fall. Has anyone heard how that works? I know it says they just want the classes completed by the time the program begins, but have they actually admitted students in this situation?
