University of Miami Accelerated BSN spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone, I just wanted to start this thread for anyone interesting or planning on applying to UM for spring 2015. I am finishing up the pre-requisites I need...doing micro class and lab. So far those are the only things I know I have to take. I'm extremely nervous, mainly because of the waiting game to see if I'm accepted or not.

I had to take over class, so I am not too happy about that either, so that also makes me a little down.

Also when I called the other day, someone said they are changing the application process, did anyone else hear that information?

Are you guys finish with all your pre-requisites?

Do you know how much repeating a class puts you in the hole for not getting accepted?

Admissions may be rolling though I don't know many nursing programs that do it that way. I'll try to call the office tomorrow.

Thank you Newhartc and Pipmunk!,I think I will go ahead and do it myself.

Newhartc,

Did the letter you received say that it would take about 4 weeks for the decision to be made or did it just have the cane-link information. I got a letter from admissions with the cane-link information, but it did not say anything about a decision. Did your letter come directly from the nursing office?

Gracemiami,

You are absolutely correct. I must have read the letter too quickly out of excitement :sarcastic:. It states that it might take 4 weeks for informational documents to appear in cane-link (not exactly an admissions decision). I check constantly for an update and I think I'm overwhelmingly excited about it all...with that being said I'm equally as nervous! Let's hope we hear soon!

If anyone else has any questions about applying through nursingCAS or anything else feel free to ask because it's always easier to get help from people who have already been through the process. I don't mind at all :). I look forward to talking more about the program in the future with everyone ~ Positive vibes.

Thanks for your willingness to help others! I submitted my application through NursingCAS earlier today. They've already received my transcripts, so I guess now they'll start doing the gpa calculations? About how long did it take you to receive a letter from UM after you submitted your application?

Mca07c,

Congrats on finishing NursingCAS! At the time when I submitted it took three days for my GPA to be calculated however keep in mind this was early August. I would say that your GPA's should be posted to your nursingCAS file no later then a week. Most likely in just a few days if everything else is in order. I submitted the application with everyone completed on 8/10/14 and got the letter about 3 weeks later.

mca07c,

I finished my nursing cas application 8/01/2014 but they did not evaluate my grades until 8/12/2014. I received a letter from the University of Miami about a week ago. I also called nursingcas and the University of Miami to ensure that all information was good to go. I think the UM originally listed the accelerated nursing option as a graduate program; even though my application is finished and submitted, it still showed as incomplete in nursing cas. Nursingcas originally stated that you needed 3 letters of recommendation, but the nursing office only requires 1. I called the nursing office to be sure that they had access to it.

Congrats to everyone who got in! It's nice to hear that they are doing rolling admits. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear.

For people who have been accepted, are decisions via regular mail or email?

Good luck to all of you! I was in the 2012 accelerated class. It is definitely not as hard as everyone makes it seem. Hope you all get in!

Hi btab3,

What did you think of the program? If you can provide us with any advice or useful information that would be awesome! I am always wondering how prepared everyone will be after those quick 12 months but from what I hear it is a great program and most students feel as though they are ready.

Also, what is the transition like if going right into the family nurse practitioner program and do you know if this is something often done by the students who complete the ABSN?

Thanks :)

I was not ready for the floor. I can't speak for everyone that graduated but I did not feel well enough prepared. Could be that I was hired straight into the ER and it was a bit learning curve. Or could be that I did not work hard at all in school. My GPA was. 3.3 upon completion. I would suggest looking for a residency or internship program out of school. It is a really good transition. As for NP programs right after I have friends who are doing that but I think it would be wiser to work for a while build up experience and confidence as a nurse before entering a program. Good luck again!
