University of Miami Accelerated BSN spring 2015

Published

Hello everyone, I just wanted to start this thread for anyone interesting or planning on applying to UM for spring 2015. I am finishing up the pre-requisites I need...doing micro class and lab. So far those are the only things I know I have to take. I'm extremely nervous, mainly because of the waiting game to see if I'm accepted or not.

I had to take over class, so I am not too happy about that either, so that also makes me a little down.

Also when I called the other day, someone said they are changing the application process, did anyone else hear that information?

Are you guys finish with all your pre-requisites?

Do you know how much repeating a class puts you in the hole for not getting accepted?

When I went to the information session, they just said classes in progress had to show up on your transcript. They said in the past they would send an acceptance letter with a pending notice: you are accepted under the conditions that your classes are finished before you start. What classes are you currently taking?

gracemiami,

okay good that makes me feel better! I'm in ap2, microbio, nutrition, and developmental psych

Hey everyone,

So I couldn't take the anticipation anymore so I gave in and called admissions today and am super excited to say that I was accepted! I received an email regarding scholarship info which was what made me think to call and ask as nothing appeared in cane-link. Hopefully some of you received that email and will hear great news at well.

Cant wait for this opportunity and I look forward to hearing more positivity from everyone else here as we discuss it all further.

P.s - are there any other guys in this forum applying?

I received that email today too... You're getting my hopes up! Did everyone else get that email?

i received the scholarship email as well, but have not received anything in the mail or email in regards to an acceptance or cane link.

Same I haven't gotten the cane link info yet and I sent in my app around sept 1st

Newhartc,

I received canelink and scholarship emails. I have not received anything official in regards to admission; however, whenever I've corresponded with admissions their responses have been positive. Did you straight out ask them whether or not you've been accepted?

Gracemiami,

Yes. The girl was very nice and I explained to her that I was very anxious and excited to hear and she told me that I should be happy to hear of my "unofficial acceptance" and to wait for another email within the next few days. Im not sure of her name but she was really nice and laughing with me and then told me congratulations. Be straight up with them! Tell them your very interested and excited to find out. Best of luck :)

However I will say I don't know if the scholarship email is sent to everyone who applied or only accepted students. Regardless it takes a little while for info to appear in cane-link so give them a call and ask if your curious, it can't hurt!

Newhartc,

Congrats on the acceptance! That is so great! I think I will go ahead and call them tomorrow to try and find out. I really, really, really want to get into this program. Out of other accelerated programs I applied to, this one is my dream choice.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA and other qualifications you submitted with your application?

Thanks!! I hear you it is my number one and I won't consider another program now. Can't wait.

My overall GPA was a 3.45 and pre req was around a 3.5-3.6... Last 60 credit GPA was 4.0. So I stressed the importance of my upward grade trend each semester. Other than that I don't have a heck of a lot of health care experience but I worked as a physical therapy aide for 2 years. Not sure if they consider those things though. I think you will be just fine. Seriously. I'm also from PA! I'm sure if your from Florida it would increase your chances too :) - Positive thinking

I'm new to Miami, originally from Indianapolis. I've been doing mostly volunteer work as a birth doula and shadowing midwives since I've been here, so I have some medical experience. My overall GPA is 3.90, pre-requisites 4.0. I'm hoping that will be good enough to get into the program. I moved here hoping it would help me get into the program and because South Florida has an amazing birthing community, which Indianapolis doesn't have. I'm really banking on getting into this program.
