Hi all soon to be fellow classmates! I just wanted to start this thread up so we didn't have to go weaving through all of the older stuff on the old threads.
I am really excited about starting school come January, really nervous though too. I have a lot to get done between now and then and sometimes I just don't think there is enough time in the day. Oh well, I plan on enjoying the holidays and working my buns off to save some money so that isn't an additional stressor during the first semester.
So lets post our questions, our thoughts and hopefully just get to know one another! And again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I am getting ready to send out all my info to the school tomorrow, but going through it I have a question primarily aimed at the current/past students. What do you recommend we do regarding the background check? Do you think it is best to get it done with PreCheck/Student Check, not do it at all? or use a different company?
Thanks!
Thanks JRFraker, Dag26, Hurricanebells.
Dag26 & Hurricanebell, I'll see you at Fayette. It's good to know classmates living in the same building (maybe we can even set-up study group later).
Klaugh: my understanding is that we just need to sign the form agreeing to the background check. Maybe I'm mistaken but I think by agreeing to it, we are authorizing the school / hospital to perform a background check on students. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.
rosesarepink: I know an 68' graduate alumni from UMB. She showed me her Florence Nightingale caps and pins from Tiffanys. Apparently it was tradition until everything started to change and the uniforms changed as well. Her class was the last to wear the blue and white striped aprons before they changed it to all white dresses?
She was telling me about how inmates would be the ones ironing their nursing aprons and theyd be starched stiff! lol

To my understanding, they will use PRECHECK website when the time comes. I guess they just want us to be acknowledged of getting background checks when we start clinicals. So, don't worry about it right now, they will give us more information later.
So teabell...and everyone else looking into Fayette. I've done A LOT of research and I spoke with a few med students and two nursing students...all five of them told me to steer clear of Fayette. You can also check out their ratings online, ahh it didn't make me want to sign the lease I have RIGHT NOW. Not that I'm taking their word for it, I'm going to go check it out again tomorrow. I lived in a really similar place owned by the same management company in College Park, MD. It was http://www.universityview.net if you want to take a look. I wouldn't recommend them and I can say the same for my three roomates.
Similar prices (sky high) and I constantly felt robbed... Fayette is run by other managers so it may be different. However, if anyone is still not bound by a lease, I found an all inclusive apartment for 750/month per person in Zenith apartments. It's right on Pratt street and .1 miles to the door of the nursing school. It's so, SO nice inside and we get 6 months of free parking...so a free semester which is pretty nice. You can sign a lease for 9 months, 12, or 15 months. Anyway, I've read nothing but great things about Zenith and it's a lot of students. If any girls are interested PM me or shoot me an e-mail, we can obviously meet and everything! I'm going to go down tomorrow and check it out. I just want to make the right choice when signing a lease this time around!
PS-Fayette might be great...so I'm definitely not trying to down it by any means. Just want to explore other, more affordable options
Hi Mhinds12, I wish I had known sooner. I had mailed my lease already a few days ago since I figured that it would be the safest bet for me given that I won't have time to visit any other apartments beforehand. I'm flying in from California just a day or 2 before the orientation. My lease is only till July since Fayette renews the lease in August so if it doesn't work out for me, I'll just bear it till then. But do let me know of your impression of it when you visit it tomorrow. Zenith looks nice...pls provide your feedback also of this apartment. It looks closer to SON than Fayette. I don't know if I'll be able to break the lease if I deliberately fail to move in--I think I can but the downside is that I'll have to say goodbye to my deposit =( .
I'll definitely let you know what I think.
I doubt you can break your lease...I'm still considering Fayette so who knows. It just depends on what I find today and tomorrow. Prices in Baltimore are pretty high if you're looking for a cockroach free, safe place to live! Plus at lease fayette is furnished, that's a big plus. Zenith is not! I have to take that into consideration.
What floor in Fayette are you on? I was looking at the 13th floor in Lombard..
Mhinds: will be on the 11th floor. What's the view like on the 13th? Have you seen the rooms? Can the bedroom furniture be re-arranged? Like Klaugh, I don't know how to PM...can't locate or see any link to send PMs. Anyway, hope you had a productive day looking at apts and that you make your decision soon. Yeah, furniture is big plus for me. Also, when I read the reviews, they were mostly on the performance of mgmt. I think I can deal with that or any problems that may arise from them. One major advantage of Zenith, the garage is under the building. For Fayette's newcoming students, I believe it's like 3 or 4 blocks away. Yikes! Oh well.
