University of Maryland Spring 2010 Accepted Students

Published

Hi all soon to be fellow classmates! I just wanted to start this thread up so we didn't have to go weaving through all of the older stuff on the old threads.

I am really excited about starting school come January, really nervous though too. I have a lot to get done between now and then and sometimes I just don't think there is enough time in the day. Oh well, I plan on enjoying the holidays and working my buns off to save some money so that isn't an additional stressor during the first semester.

So lets post our questions, our thoughts and hopefully just get to know one another! And again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

"To Grey Lady or anyone else who knows any good info:

Since I know the admissions office and registration office are pretty busy (as are you too), but here are my questions:

1. Will we get an email or letter saying to register for 320 and not 405 for the BSN students?

2. How long does it take to get to register online if all our 'stuff' (confirmation letter & money) was recieved Monday this week- yes I know that sounds pushy- but I'm just asking

3. If we have FAFSA at our current community college and added UMB to our schools last week- do we need to do anything else?

4. Are we going to get another packet on scholarships/loans/FAFSA in the coming weeks before school starts?

5. Also, is UMB for the Baltimore campus a huge commuter school? I'll be commuting the first semester and then I'll try to move down there, but would it be in my best interest to scramble and try and get a room/apartment down there the first semester?

Thank you for all your help and I hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving"

1. We did get an email saying to sign up for 320 instead of 405

2. It took me about 3 days to register online

3. I don't know about FAFSA- give them a call

5. I don't know if they are a big commuter school

are these shoes okay? or are they not correct? I don't understand what they mean by oxford or athletic- I get the leather part though:cool:

if any of you got other shoes that you think are better- then let me know please

for the Stethoscope Classic II SE- do we have to get Black tubing or can we get burgundy tubing?

i was looking at a littmann stethoscope classic ii se in burgundy with a personalized name on the tubing for $65.99 that's online instead of the $94 at the bookstore- the bookstore also carries all colors... but I don't know the rules of UMB SON and it doesn't get specific in the packet

hope all is well

hurricanebells- i have no idea if those shoes will work, sorry- i'll be checking to see if they do because they have them at my local macy's

For shoes I was thinking these might work. But they are more my taste except they are all white.

But Ideally I want some all white leather nike running shoes because I imagine being on your feet all day requires the most comfortable shoes. I am worried though a different colored swoosh or something will be against the rules.

Anyone else here on the various UMSON Facebook pages?

Oh yeah I got the books. I'm even more nervous now. Nervous and broke.

im pretty sure they mean any white leather athletic shoe. I have no idea what oxford is.

scrubs and beyond has good deals. Im getting the littman lightweight. My friend there told me they dont really care as long as it has a diaphram/bell. Im still going to stick with littman just to be sure. Im also trying to figure out what color scrubs. I was told a white top and beige/tan bottoms. Im gonna recheck though.

bmore campus!

For scrubs there is a UNIFORM CITY on Howard street in Baltimore. It is very close to the Baltimore Campus and the bookstore. I bought one scrub top white with the patch at the bookstore but I got two sets of light brown/khaki scrub pants at UNIFORM CITY and saved 20$. Also they sell the UMDSON patches at the bookstore so you could get a patch(iron on) for cheap and then buy the top and lab coat somewhere else. I will do this if I need a back up.

yea there is one here in rockville, i was gonna ebay everything else. now i have an excuse to bid:)

lunaaedon- did you have any luck with housing on Friday? Also, do you think our tubing on the stethoscopes has to be BLACK or can it be a color of our choosing? I was going to go for UMB red and do that... what do you think?

Im still looking for housing, i looked at malboro, charles tower, avalon and im seeing a townhouse this coming weekend. then ill make my decision.

Im going for lilac or seafoam green. I dont see why we couldnt buy whatever color, they sell them on the school bookstore.

as for books- did you buy them right out of the bookstore? I've found most of the stuff on ebay cheaper- but what if we walk into class and the teacher is like- oh you don't need that.... ahhh! or did you buy the really expensive stuff- how'd you go about picking which books you wanted?

thanks again

Oh and Lunaaedon- good luck on looking- I'll be down there in baltimore in the fall. I'll see how this commuting from owings mills goes from carroll county... i'll prob. be crazy by the end of the semester :jester:
