University of Central Florida (UCF) BSN to DNP 2024

Published

Hello! Is anyone planning on applying to any of UCF's BSN-DNP programs? I am applying to the adult/gerontology acute care track and am kind of nervous since it is super competitive. I'm hoping this chat will help ease anxiety and we can all stay connected on the application process and timeline. And if any previous applicants can talk about what they did to boost their chances of getting into the program(s) that would be awesome!

Not yet, but getting more nervous as we get closer to March LOL. Last year's applicants got their email in early March so I guess we have to wait till then ?

I know ? I am just losing my mind and was hoping it wouldn't be March this year LOL ?

Hi Everyone! I applied last year and got into the Acute Care Track. I wish everyone luck! I believe I received my acceptance letter March 10th if that helps. Also, I did not have much experience as a nurse. I has just graduated UCF's ABSN program Summer of 2022. I started working in a SICU November of 2022, and applied by February 2023. My last day with my preceptor was the day I received my letter. I started in Fall and have a good friend in the FNP track. We had the exact same classics 1st semester and 2/3 classes the 2nd semester...it is so nice having a friend to go through the program with! Also, I have a co-worker who applied this year to Acute Care and 2 past classmates going for FNP from our ABSN cohort. I wish each and every one of you luck. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi! Thanks for replying btw! I did have a question- not sure if you know the answer or not but do you know if they weight certain traits more on applicants? I had an advisor tell me that they prefer more leadership and workplace involvement and applicants who are experienced. But, some applicants also apply fresh out of school with minimal experience. Is it a balance of academic and professional experience in your opinion?  Also, how are the first couple semesters like? Is it tough to balance classes etc. Thank you again!

Hi Payal!

I am not sure how the weights go but I was told that work experience is given "points" and if you have taken your GRE even though it's no longer required, you also get "points" for that. I know of one person in my ABSN that applied halfway through the BSN program and she had done some research work with one of the professors during the first semester and had that professor write one of the letters of recommendations. In my case, I believe my letters of recommendations were pivotal in my acceptance. And a strong essay is important is what a current professor told me.

First semester was a little crazy at the beginning as you start to get into the swing of having multiple assignments due weekly but it gets better as you adjust and remember how essential time management is. I had to drop down to part time at work but I also had a 4 year old (now 5) who is special needs and requires extra attention. 2nd semester-no exams! But lots of projects both group and on your own. Had a few paper assignments in the first semester, none in the 2nd semester. Weekly discussion posts both semesters took a lot of time each to do and were mini papers imo LOL.

Thank you so much for giving this feedback! It's so helpful <3 I'm going for part time and work full-time and have a 4 and a 2 year old so it has me wondering if this is actually realistic for me but I can at least reflect on it more with the examples you gave so I appreciate it.

Has anyone heard anything as of yet? The suspense is killing me

Nothing yet, maybe by march 10th??

Hi! I submitted my application Jan 31st last second LOL. I'm anxiously waiting on the decision as well. I also applied to UF's program as well. I'm a firm believer in what God has meant for me will be meant for me. I'm currently a travel nurse and excited to embark on a new journey . I've been a nurse for 8 years so hopefully my credentials are enough !!
