World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I am planning to apply to the degree holder route for nursing at the University of Calgary for January 2021. I found this site by reading through the University of Calgary, January 2020 forum and thought it would be good to start one for this next years in take.

I am currently finishing my English prerequisite and my anatomy and physiology course at Athabasca. Last year it looked like the GPA cut off was a 3.6 and that most people over a 3.7 got accepted.

Hey, I saw on the university of calgary reddit someone got in with a 3.4 for Winter I'm not exactly sure which intake, but I know last Winter on the old allnurses page individuals got in with a 3.5! I think there are more seats for degree holders so the GPA usually goes lower than transfers!

any change of program (internal u of calgary) students here?

Hey! I am a UofC student applying through the transfer route, haha sorry for the misunderstanding! I really hope COVID does not have a major impact its already so competitive. Don't understand why they don't add more seats, nursing is always in demand

I hope COVID works in our favour and discourages people in accepting their offers and hopefully not a lot of people applied. since its this early and people with 3.7 are being accepted im very optimistic. usually in mid/end September 3.7's get accepted but I saw someone with 3.71 get accepted. I think the application pool is lower and also maybe with the COVID pandemic more seats will open because of even more demand since the UCP was supposed to cut nursing jobs but COVID kinda stopped it.

Ah I am so nervous, waiting to find out is so stressful! people with 3.7 got into fall and I think last year the cutoff for fall was 3.8 so that's also encouraging!

yeah they usually start by admitting 3.8's then work down the list. surprised they're at 3.71 this early. anyways lets pray and hope for the best!!

I am also a change of program applicant!

And you know of someone with a 3.71 get accepted already for the transfer-route?Because currently I have a 3.71!! The wait is always so stressful.

One of the admissions officers also told me that they usually don't start evaluating and processing change of programs until October!

Congratulations everyone who have a success to enter the program!! I am still working on finishing some pre requisite courses.
I am wondering how everyone knows their GPA? I mean I know those 5 pre requisite courses individually and my previous post secondary one ( mine has no transferable courses so they said they will take the cumulative GPA) then how can you estimate your overall GPA? Just combine all and divide by the number of courses?

also, when we send our transcript, u of c will look at the letter grading (a,b,c...) or they will just see point I achieved (like 4.0,3.7...)

Have a good one!
