Hey everyone! I am planning to apply to the degree holder route for nursing at the University of Calgary for January 2021. I found this site by reading through the University of Calgary, January 2020 forum and thought it would be good to start one for this next years in take.

I am currently finishing my English prerequisite and my anatomy and physiology course at Athabasca. Last year it looked like the GPA cut off was a 3.6 and that most people over a 3.7 got accepted.

You may have to retake your prerequisites or do a GPA booster you can get A+ in. I would do what you are good at. If you’re good at math, take an intro to math course. At Western University you can take an online course called Math 1229 and it’s the easiest math course in Canada. If you’re good with memorization and readings do an introduction to psychology course.

UofC also has a bunch of GPA boosters, and since classes are online you wouldn't need to travel for them. Some that I can remember are: ASTR 207/209, GRST 211, ARHI 203, RELS 200/201/203, SAST 203, DNCE 341/345. Just double check the profs on ratemyprof since sometimes the course depends on the prof teaching it. Hope this helps!

I'm an international student and my application recently got cancelled. my GPA was below average. 

I would need help in what easy courses I can take to boost my GPA. I currently have a B+ in A&P, B+ English and B+ in Statistics (took them at Athabasca).

If you are at the UofC I would suggest you take music courses. They are literally courses where you attend concerts and write about how it made you feel and the tests are all memorization based exams. So if you study hard, an A is possible. I took Music 403 (world hand drumming was sooo fun but looks like it has been discontinued ? ), music 309, and music 307. I also took a drama class and that was fun as well.

Hi everyone!

It’s been well over 3 weeks with my portal still reviewing my courses to see if they meet the requirements. I’ve called multiple times and it’s due to my anatomy & physiology pre-req. I tried to email the nursing email from the school website to see if I could give them a more detailed syllabus than the course outline I originally provided (hoping that might speed up the process) but no response yet. I was recently rejected from another program here in the U.S so I’m starting to really stress about where I’m going to get into/the moving process with covid right now. Did anyone else have this issue with waiting so long for the reviewing process? Last I checked the cut off was a 3.6 and with my calculations I should be above that but the waiting game is painful, especially hearing that people are able to apply for classes already and that some people have been waitlisted with over a 3.6...

Thank you. What if the course does not have an exam and they are just assignments. does it count?

Yeah the UofC literally takes your most recent 5 courses (15 credits) in whatever you have taken. They don’t care if it had a final exam or not. All of my music courses did not have a final exam, other than world hand drumming, I had a drumming final exam. If you can find an online medical terminology course, I would recommend that too! Its a memorization course, and as long as you study with flash cards weekly and memorize all the terms and its meaning then that is also an easy A but this requires studying and studying requires time commitment.

Forgot to add the course name. It was GRST 211 at the UofC or CLAS 1111 at MRU.

I only applied for Winter 2021. It is so confusing! It took me quite a while to figure it out. But after some digging online, I found that they have a table in the student handbook that explains how to apply for loans for the after-degree program. The table I used is on page 28. 

So in the Alberta Student Loan application, I stated that I'm in the Bachelor of Nursing program, degree-holder, and year 2 (because we start with year 2 courses). I was then able to select "January 1 - April 30" for my start and end dates. 

If I understand it correctly, I think we will be able to apply for the Spring semester later in the year. Once that time comes, we will select year 2 still, but then it will give us the option of "May 1 - June 30" for the study dates.

And then in September 2021, we'll be able to apply for year 3, September 1 - April 30. Then year 4 includes May 1 - June 30 (2022) and September 1 - December 31.

Thank you!! That table is super helpful since it can be confusing with the accelerated program. It makes sense to apply for Winter semester and then Spring semester separately.

Hello, long time lurker here. Has anyone been offered admission recently? My GPA is around 3.5 and I am still waiting for them to make a decision. The wait is excruciating, I must say.
